Web site shows vertical panel saws in action
Videos have been added to a Web site to show Striebig vertical panel saws in action: sizing and cutting panels to within 0.1mm.
* Digital measurement - the Striebig Compact 4164 is equipped with an optional digital measuring system, which is accurate to 0.1mm.
This accuracy benefits the trimming plastics sheets that are delivered in a condition not 100% square.
Bob Thomas, Mottram's works manager, said the Striebig was recommended to them by one of their sheet suppliers who had one.
He went along to see it in action and was impressed by its sturdy build, ease of use and its accuracy.
Apparently, the Striebig Compact has a single, welded sawing frame designed to give decades of reliable service whilst maintaining cutting precision.
The Striebig Compact 4164 has a maximum cut size of 3100 x 1644mm and a cutting depth of 60mm.
It will cut polypropylene, PVC and UPVC sheets, which measure 2440 x 1220mm or 3 x 1.5m and are 4.5mm or 6mm thick.
One of the features of the Compact is its medium and small work piece supports.
These extend along the full length of the saw and make it easy to saw small pieces either vertically or horizontally.
The saw's integral dust extraction system ensures that dust levels are kept well below permitted European limits.
* Reducing labour content - Mottam had used the Striebig Compact to replace an elderly bench mounted circular saw.
The circula saw requied a lot of space to position plastics sheets.
It was a very labour intensive method.
It needed three people to position a sheet for sawing and hold it firmly being cut.
Now, even with the largest plastics sheets, the Striebig Compact has converted sawing into a one-man operation.
It has freed personnel for other work at Mottram The Compact saw has a narrow 'footprint', so has been installed against a wall in the fabrication shop and not in the the main workshop, where the circular saw was located.
So the Striebig Compact has also saved materials handling between the main workshop and fabrication shop.
The Striebig Compact cuts most sheet materials: including wood-based panels, plaster board and aluminium.
Striebig also builds saws cut size of 4600 x 2070mm and 4600 x 2200mm.
Other accessories include a scoring unit, recommended when sawing coated boards, an angle-cutting unit and a grooving tool for composite panels.
* Supplier - T M Machinery Sales of Leicester, UK, supplied and installed the Striebig Compact vertical panel saw and a linked Alko mobile extraction unit.
T M also provided Mottram with operator training.
