Friction welder assembles tubular driveshaft
Equipped with an automated loading and unloading system, a double-ended friction welding machine welds two forgings into a single tubular centre driveshaft component for a four-wheel drive car.
It marks the latest sales success story for Thompson which has recently been awarded orders for new machines from customers in the United States, Mexico and Korea.
Its achievements were recently singled out for praise with a business award from The Birmingham Post newspaper.
The refurbished Model 60SE for Case included an upgrade on the electrical system so it could store up to 500 sets of weld parameters which ensure that every weld can be verified against a known quality benchmark.
It is now installed in Case's production facility in Tracy le Mont, France, where it is being used to friction weld hydraulic piston rods for back hoe loaders and other construction machine equipment.
Work is already underway on the remaining machines, another Model 60SE and a Model 80SE, which are also bound for Case's Tracy le Mont factory where a number of other Thompson friction welding machines are in use.
Thompson offers a comprehensive machine refurbishment service which not only provides an electrical upgrade but also mechanical reconditioning.
All work undertaken by Thompson is fully guaranteed.
