Aberdeen Group's, "Multi-CAD Design Chain Benchmark Report: Insulating Engineering from Today's Multi-CAD Environment", addresses the enormous challenges facing engineering organisations who struggle with incompatible design formats.
The research suggests that significant manufacturing problems and costs can be traced to poor or non-existent CAD file compatibility between engineering applications.

CAD and CAM second in France
A PLM report published in France "Marche Francais du PLM 2007" suggests that Missler Software has gained number two status for mid range CAD and CAM in France.
The report goes on to say that "engineering organisations spend a significant amount of time and effort translating or even re-creating design data, which results in missed launch dates and low design reuse".
However, top performers are more likely to utilise third-party translation products, such as TransMagic, to mitigate these problems.
"TransMagic sponsored this report because Aberdeen has done an excellent job of researching the issues concerning data management in multi-CAD environments".
"Companies waste a significant amount of time trying to fix IGES files or re-creating design data".
"Aberdeen identifies the key factors that impact efficiency," said Todd Reade, President of TransMagic.
"TransMagic's focus is developing high quality data exchange tools that solve this costly manufacturing problem".
"As engineering organisations are increasingly inundated with design data in a variety of formats, the best in class performers are ten times more likely to turn towards translation applications such as TransMagic to insulate themselves from the disruptive effects of recreating designs in different formats," announced Chad Jackson, Research Director and Author of this Aberdeen Group report.
TransMagic CAD translation software is used by companies that need access to multiple CAD formats for use in any manufacturing related application.
Market segments include aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics, defence, semiconductors and marine.
TransMagic's global customers include DaimlerChrysler, Siemens, Boeing, NASA, Mitsubishi, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Toyota and Caterpillar.
TransMagic supports the major MCAD (mechanical CAD) and neutral file formats including CATIA V4 and V5, Unigraphics, Pro/ENGINEER, SolidWorks, Inventor, ACIS, Parasolid, HSF, STEP and IGES.
