CNC multi-spindle lathe made for medics
A CNC multi-spindle automatic lathe is intended for volume production of small medical components and has eight spindles, each with its own independent motorspindle.
At the recent MediSiams exhibition in Moutier, Switzerland, Tornos premiered its new MultiAlpha - a multi-spindle turning machine for machining medical parts in long production runs With its MultiAlpha turning machine, Tornos was already meeting productivity and quality requirements in sectors like the automotive and watch making

Four patents granted for fixed headstock DECO
Following the phenomenal success of the DECO concept on sliding head and multispindle products, Tornos engineers wanted to develop a DECO incorporating fixed headstock technology.
Lathe combines best of CNC and cams
Tornos has unveiled its new automatic lathe, the DECO 42 f. For the first time, the DECO 2000 concept has been applied to the world of the fixed headstock.
The MultiAlpha CNC multi-spindle automatic lathe is equipped with eight spindles, each with its own motor spindle.
Therefore, each station can work at the optimum speed for machining an exact area on the workpiece.
In addition, the workpiece can be positioned independently on each station and operations can be repeated.

Turnkey, multi-spindle lathe has own bar-feeder
At the EMO in Hanover during September of this year, Tornos will unveil as a first throughout the world, its new multi-spindle lathe working on the DECO concept: - the MULTIDECO 32/6 i.
Advanced CNC automatic enhanced further
Since its first appearance at the EMO, Hannover, last year, the Tornos 20a has been further improved aesthetically and the counter spindle increased in diameter.
Increase multi-spindle machine capability even further, the counter spindle of the MultiAlpha turning machine has five different tools that enable the same number of counter-spindle machining operations.
This machining capacity would usually mean that the workpiece can remain at this station for a prolonged period, a disadvantage when it comes to the total cycle time of the workpiece.
However, Tornos engineers have avoided this problem by positioning a second counter spindle with five tools - a major benefit.
This development gives enhanced turning machine flexibility and reduces operational time on the workpiece by doubling the time available for counter operations.
Tornos said that with the MultiAlpha, multi-spindle machining time for the same workpiece is four to six times faster than on a single-spindle turning machine.
* Medical component machining growth - Tornos forecasts an annual growth rate of 6-8% for the medical sector in the next few years with countries having an ageing population and more than 700,000 hip fractures registered in Europe every year.
Focusing upon maximising the manufacturers profit potential, Tornos promoted the benefits of the Multi-spindle range of turning centres to visitors, including a UK group, hosted by Tornos technologies, attending the MediSiams exhibition.
The increasing flexibility and capability of the Tornos CNC multi-spindle automatic lathe range, combined with the surprising ease of use, generated considerable interest from visitors.
* About MediSiams exhibition - the MediSiams exhibition is an annual event that specifically concentrates on the manufacture of medical components and peripheral equipment within Europe.
The notable growth in demand for small turned parts over the past few years in the medical market has drawn significant interest from Tornos and its end users.
