CNC sliding head automatic takes 32mm
bar
CNC sliding head automatic accepts bar up to 32mm diameter and has two independent, but identical, tool systems to machine workpieces simultaneously in forward and backworking operations.
The Sigma 32, a CNC sliding headstock, single-spindle turning automatic lathe is intended for bar turning operations on workpieces up to 32mm in diameter Shown at last year's EMO 2007 exhibition in Gemany, the Sirma 32 has the successful kinematics of the smaller Tornos Deco Sigma 20 and delivers all the same benefits, said Tornos

Four patents granted for fixed headstock DECO
Following the phenomenal success of the DECO concept on sliding head and multispindle products, Tornos engineers wanted to develop a DECO incorporating fixed headstock technology.
Lathe combines best of CNC and cams
Tornos has unveiled its new automatic lathe, the DECO 42 f. For the first time, the DECO 2000 concept has been applied to the world of the fixed headstock.
The Sigma 32 machine's kinematics comprise two entirely independent and identical tool systems.
This enables workpieces of the same complexity to be machined simultaneously in standard and 'back' or 'counter' operation.
A wide range of interchangeable tool holders and accessories are available for both operating modes.
The Sigma 32 has an impressive total of 22 different tool positions.
This does not in any way make set-up more complex, said Tornos to manufacturingtalk.com, since the pre-configurable tool systems all have quick-change capability.
The Sigma 32's spacious machining area makes this a very comfortable operation to perform.
In terms of programming, the Swiss manufacturer offers complete p[erational freedom: users can choose between classic ISO programming code or TB-DECO.
Sigma 32 was conceived with strength in mind.
In particular, the generously proportioned cast iron frame, verified using the finite element method creates a perfect, solid base on which spindles can be mounted.
These also have substantial dimensions.
Sigma 32 was clearly designed with the aim of performing demanding operations, even with the toughest of materials.
The machining area and its spray-cooling or system is designed for optimum swarf removal, even when working on large workpieces which generate substantial volumes of swarf.
Sigma 32 will be available for delivery from the end of 2007.
Technical characteristics include the following.
* Bar capacity - 32mm diameter.
* Maximum speed of spindle and counter-spindle (aka 'back spindle') - 8000 rev/min.
* Power of spindle and counter-spindle - 3.7/5.5kW.
* Tool stations - 22.
* Cross section of tools -16mm x 16mm.
* Maximum number of rotating tools -16.
* Number of linear axes - 6.
