Turning centre is claimed to guarantee precision of +/-2 micron and is used for the precise manufacture of small turned parts up to 7mm diameter.

The recent Simodec exhibition provided an opportunity for Tornos to invite BTMA (British Turned Parts Manufacturing Association) members to view a multitude of new innovations Making its world premiere was the Tornos Micro 7 turning centre that guarantees precision of +/-2 microns

BTMA members travelled to Simodec to see the new turning centres and also had the opportunity to visit other factories in the area.

Demonstrating excellent flexibility, productivity and operator simplicity, Tornos said that the Micro 7 is ideally suited to the precise manufacture of small turned parts up to 7mm diameter.

With a maximum workpiece length of 60mm and a spindle and counter spindle speed of 20,000 rev/min, Tornos is offering a highly productive machine proven to outperform the cam-type machines that have dominated this small component sector.

Additional product launches that caught the attention of BTMA members at Simodec were the new MultiSigma 8x20, Deco 13e and Sigma 32.

With the MultiSigma 8x20, Tornos told manufacturingtalk that it had developed a machine that brings the quality and precision of the MultiAlpha for manufacturing less complex parts.

The Deco 13e is an 8-axis machine that employs the same concept, as users don't necessarily need a 13-axis machine to produce some parts.

This simplified machine follows in the same vein as the Deco 10e that was launched after the DECO 10a, which proved an exceptional success among customers.

With the new Sigma 32, Tornos presented yet another new model.

This machine takes all the benefits of the Sigma 20 and applies them to a machine capable of machining from 32mm diameter bar stock.

At the exhibition the BTMA party were welcomed on the Tornos stand by vice president Dr Willi Nef.

Winning a bottle of wine at the Tornos prize draw was Bernard Groom of subcontractor Qualiturn.

Since the exhibition, the innovative Swiss manufacturer has launched a further two machines, the Tornos Deco 20e and 26e.
