Agreement Aimed at Providing Enterprises with the First Network-Intelligent Remote Replication Solution for Disaster Recovery

Rhapsody Networks and Topio, two storage industry innovators, have said they plan to deliver an advanced approach to remote replication and disaster recovery (DR) of corporate data which the companies believe will achieve significant improvements in data integrity, cost efficiency, and performance Rhapsody Networks develops and markets a line of intelligent storage networking platforms that run storage applications within a storage area network (SAN)

Topio develops and markets a next-generation disaster recovery (DR) solution that extends the capabilities currently available to enterprises for remote replication and disaster recovery.

Topio's patent-pending solution, which enables lower cost, system-wide consistent DR for heterogeneous data over any distance, will be adapted to run within a SAN on Rhapsody Application Directors platforms.

By providing enterprises with a new network-centric approach to DR, users will benefit from lower cost and easier data replication between heterogeneous storage devices and across long distances.

"Many enterprises today utilise disaster recovery applications on a small subset of their most critical applications due to the cost and complexities involved," said Nancy Marrone, Senior Analyst, Enterprise Storage Group.

"The Rhapsody Application Director is the ideal platform for the Topio solution".

"Placing a DR application 'in the cloud' eliminates many implementation issues and potentially reduces the cost of providing a site wide DR solution - something every enterprise should have".

Based on patent-pending XPath technology and architecture, the Rhapsody family of Storage Application Directors allows the execution of the storage application software to be located within the SAN itself, not just on the host or storage systems.

Storage application software running in the SAN has significant cost and scalability advantages over traditional approaches.

Rhapsody platforms provide robust hardware and system support to ensure that leading storage applications achieve unprecedented performance and scalability within the SAN, thereby extending end-user storage management efficiencies.

According to Rhapsody Networks president and CEO, Mike Klayko, this agreement is another example of Rhapsody's strategy to exploit its recently introduced XPath Technology with innovative software vendors to deliver the best-of-breed storage applications for data-intensive enterprises.

"Topio represents the best of a new generation of storage applications".

"They clearly understand both the technical and customer needs for disaster recovery - precisely what is required to make this a more pervasive application for business continuity," said Klayko.

Yoram Novick, founder and CEO of Topio, added, "Our host-based disaster recovery solution is performing extremely well at tier 1 customers".

"The Topio solution is very well suited for a SAN fabric implementation".

"We've chosen to work with Rhapsody as their technology and developer support is outstanding".
