Modular build makes shorter cycle times
possible
The modular configuration of a high performance mill/turn centre allows simultaneous, or over-lapped machining at one or both spindles for tooling flexibility and shorter cycle times.
The modular configuration of the Traub TNC 65DGY high performance mill/turn centre, with opposed main and secondary spindles and optional upper and lower 10 tool turrets with a Y-axis cross feed and all-driven tool positions, allows simultaneous, or over-lapped machining at one or both spindles for maximum tooling flexibility and shorter cycle times Now available from Traub Heckert UK of Brackley, the TNC 65DGY has a 65mm bar or 175mm chuck capacity with a 450mm turning length

The portal design Hermle C1200 can be specified with either a rigid table or NC swivelling rotary table to cater for complex aircraft type components or mould and die work.
High metal removal coupled with close tolerance and high surface finish capability are assured by incorporating a 40deg inclined bed which is coupled to a thermo-symmetrically designed headstock and linear guide ways for both t urrets and the secondary spindle.
The main spindle has a high torque 18.5kW AC drive giving 4,000 revs/min.
To allow high productivity milling, especially involving the Y-axis cross feed capability, the C-axis option has a 200Nm torque drive and brake hold for positioning and damping.

Like the main spindle, the secondary spindle is heavy duty and powered by an 11kW, 4,000 revs/min AC motor with 210Nm of torque available.
The secondary spindle acts in 'kissing' mode using its rapid traverse rate of 30m/min to pick-up semi-finished components from the main spindle.
The pick-up action involves a synchronous transfer to maintain geometric relations ready for finish machining on the part-off side of the component.
The secondary spindle is also able to be programmed to act as a bar puller or as a tailstock in order to support long shaft type components or as a steady, utilising its hollow spindle.
Through the Traub 32-bit TX8H control, the two 10 station VDI turrets have independent all-driven positions with 4kW, 4,000 revs/min available and 12.4Nm of torque for high capacity milling and short cycle drilling.
Through tool coolant is standard and due to the configuration of the upper and lower turrets, the driven tools can be programmed for simultaneous or over lapped use and therefore giving shorter cycle times.
Also, most important for quick and accurate tool setting, is the patented Traub toolholder location which is set and aligned on the circumference of the turret and negates any need for holder alignment or adjustment.
With 70mm of total travel for the Y-axis feed to the top turret, off-centre machining and interpolation involving X, Z and C-axes can be performed.
Among the wide range of options available on the TNC 65DGY is a fully automatic bar loader able to accommodate material up to 4200mm long, a programmable parts picker/conveyor out-feed and the ability to remove long parts through the hollow bore of the secondary spindle.
In addition, a fully flexible component handling system can be specified along with customised solutions.
Attachments include thread milling, deep hole drilling with 80 bar (1,160 psi) coolant supply, polygon turning and thread milling.
In process and post process gauging can also be specified, and a high accuracy package for maintenance of tolerances under 10 microns.
