Sheet metal productivity increases are
affordable
Affordable productivity is the main message from a CNC punch press, press brake and laser profiling machine builder at MACH 2004 that focusses on automation.
Affordable productivity is Trumpf's main message at MACH Automated systems that increase the speed and lower the cost of manufacture accounted for a large proportion of Trumpf's growth last year, a trend that is accelerating in 2004

Heavy duty laser profiler works through the night

Two laser heads are three times better than one
In theory a twin-head laser profiler produces double the output of a 'normal' single-head machine.
Except in this case, it is around three times as productive!
British manufacturers are recognising the need to automate in order to compete in the global marketplace and Trumpf has therefore put together a range of solutions, several of which will be at MACH.
In total, Trumpf has taken 600 square metres of exhibition space on two stands.
The main stand, 3150, will be showing punching, laser cutting and bending and for several of the machines being demonstrated, it is their British debut.

The biggest benefits to come from the TrumaBend pressbrake to date have been its accuracy and consistency of bend, said Operations Director Tony Yapp at road sweeper manufacturer, Johnston.

Laser and punch boost switchgear output
The bottom line at Lucy Switchgear is that one laser and one punch have enabled the company to produce 10,000 parts/week, compared with some 6,000 parts/week from the old two-punch facility.
The second stand will be devoted to multi-axis laser cutting.
The TC5000R is Trumpf's punching and forming flagship.
It is also the basis of the main automated system at MACH, a system that has been the subject of several orders in November alone.
Thanks to its high acceleration rates, the basic TC5000R is already exceptionally productive.
When it is teamed with automated handling, its productivity is unmatched.
The TC5000R offers a combination of system components tailored exactly to the customers' requirements.
The modular structure enables various customised configurations.
These include automated loading and unloading with the Trumalift SheetMaster, with or without a tool magazine and compact storage system.
A typical high-end solution would connect one or more machines to a central storage system.
The two machines receiving their first public demonstration at MACH are the TC3000R and the L2530 Plus.
Laser-edge quality punching and profiling with Trumpf Multishear, precision bending with Trumpf Multibend, rotation of all tools and the introduction of patented roller technology, are just four aspects of the new TC3000R that make it an extremely versatile machine.
New roller technology enables fast beading.
This machine is therefore the perfect choice for those involved in climate control and ventilation engineering.
Clever new motion technology integrated into Trumpf's new L2530 Plus allows this compact 1.25m x 2.5 2D flat bed laser machine to achieve rapid acceleration rates that improve laser cutting productivity.
These rapid acceleration rates of up to 1g/990cms per second improve part cycle time and percentage of 'beam on' time.
The L2530 can therefore demonstrate productivity increases of up to 30% on intricate parts.
To facilitate loading and unloading, the machine is equipped with an automatic pallet changer that speeds and simplifies the process.
The press brakes in the second-generation TrumaBend V Series are synonymous with flexible and productive bending.
The key to this lies not only in sophisticated machine technology and intelligent tooling but, above all, in sensor technology.
The MACH demonstration will therefore include the angle sensor ACB - automatically controlled bending - a technique developed and patented by Trumpf.
For those requiring an entry-level bending package, Trumpf will also show an example of its TrumaBend C-Series.
This range is designed for easy, cost-efficient bending in situations where more advanced performance options are unnecessary.
Multi-axis laser cutting - sheet metalworking without laser machines is no longer conceivable.
The strength of the laser for cutting lies in its ability to process a vast range of materials, whether thick or thin.
Laser-cut workpieces have edges of the highest quality that do not need refinishing.
They are instantly ready for assembly - a huge advantage.
Trumpf's second stand demonstrates these advantages on the new TLC Cut 5, another machine being shown for the first time at MACH and the product of Trumpf's continued record investment in research and development.
The new TLC Cut 5 five-axis laser machine, with its compact design and reduced footprint, is tailored for processing of formed sheet metal parts.
The laser is routed through a completely encapsulated beam guideway to the machining optics by a system of water-cooled mirrors.
The AutoLas Plus regulation system keeps the focus position steady across the entire working range and also ensures that the laser is automatically adapted to the material type and thickness.
This yields uniformly good cutting results, reduces the need for operator intervention and thereby minimises set-up time.
The rigid design of the motion axes with suitably high dynamics results in short machining times.
The user-friendly control offers easy access to comprehensive laser cutting tables for a variety of materials.
This translates into short trial times for new parts, coupled with higher cutting quality, less refinishing work - overall, greater production efficiency.
