Positioning speeds raised on CNC punch press
The TC5000R introduces a new weight optimised co-ordinate guide system, lighter machine tables and rapid tool change cartridges to give 20m/sec2 acceleration and positioning speeds of 116m/min.
Sheetmetal CNC punching cells multiply
FiFab celebrated its 25th anniversary by buying a new punching facility from Trumpf. The investment was not just one machine, but a flexible cell, based on a Trumatic 500 and automatic handling.
"From an engineering point of view we liked the concept".
"All tools having rotation and the single punching head with a lot less deflection than turret machines were big selling points," explained ZOT Engineering's managing director, Derek Brown.
Three divisions comprise ZOT Engineering in Musselburgh, Lothian.
One manufactures bare printed circuit boards and another is responsible for electronic and mechanical assembly.
The third, which has installed the TC2020R, is the sheet metal and machining division.
All primarily serve the electronics industry.
With business on the up in the sheet metalworking division, ZOT Engineering deemed the time right, both financially and commercially, for its first Trumatic, a decision that is already paying dividends.
"In contrast with our existing turrets, the TC2020 provides greater flexibility and uptime." Brown continued.
"The use of Multitools and every tool being rotational means less set-up time especially as our main markets are in small to medium batch quantities." Brown also confirms better sheet utilisation.
The facility can now punch an entire 2500 x 1250mm sheet whereas before it had to shear the sheet into smaller panels.
The parts ZOT Engineering produces generally fall within the thickness range of 1mm - 3mm thick and are in mild steel, aluminium, 'Zintec' (zinc-coated steel), stainless steel, copper, brass or plastics.
With a view to incorporating secondary operations ZOT has also taken delivery of additional tools for tapping and forming.
"Having a modern machine with up-to-date features gives us more confidence to move forward in our marketplace," Brown concludes. Request a free brochure from Trumpf ...
"The TC2020R has helped us secure new work and I have no doubt more will follow.".
