Trumpf reports record sales

Trumpf recorded an 11 per cent rise in sales in the 2007/2008 fiscal year to EUR2.14bn, with gross income growing to EUR301m.

The net operating margin reached 14.1 per cent.

Trumpf created 697 new jobs, including 291 in Germany and on June 30, 2008, the company employed about 8,000 people worldwide.

This was the fourth consecutive year Nicola Leibinger-Kammuller, president of Trumpf, announced a double-digit sales increase.

The Ditzingen-based company recorded a sales rise of 13 per cent in western Europe and 22 per cent in Eastern Europe.

Customers in America also invested and the dollar's weakness contributed to growth in the American market of two per cent on a Euro basis, equivalent to a 15 per cent growth in US dollars.

Leibinger-Kammuller said: 'We made substantial investments in the USA and Mexico over the past years and expanded sales and production.

'At the moment we are doing the same in China, India and also in Japan.' Trumpf recently became the first German machine tool manufacturer with a production facility in Japan and increased its sales in the Asian Pacific region by eight per cent overall.

All business divisions contributed to the growth in sales.

Products based on laser technology accounted for 64 per cent, the largest proportion of corporate sales.

Leibinger-Kammuller said: 'We want to achieve the sales of the past year even under challenging conditions.' The company started the new fiscal year with an order volume of EUR574m.

At the Euroblech industry trade show, which will be held next week in Hanover, Germany, Trumpf will present products from its machine tools and laser technology divisions.

Trumpf can offset capacity fluctuations through its flexible work-time models without causing financial losses for employees.

Internationalization efforts will continue, to offset regional market fluctuations.

Trumpf will keep its investments high in fiscal 2008/09 and plans to reach the investment volume of the past year.

In addition to other activities, a new development centre is being built in Ditzingen.
