FEA verification of rollform tooling
performed
Simulation software enables a roll-pass designer to verify the designed roll tool set for rollformed profiles and tubes by using the Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
UBECO presents the "Virtual Rollforming Machine", that enables the designer to verify the designed roll tool set for rollformed profiles and tubes by using the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) After the first test run at a well known manufacturer of rollforming machines has been successful, this new feature is available now for all designers of rollforming tools

Calculating rollform tools' critical areas exactly
Critical areas of rollform tools, such as bending zones, can be calculated with higher resolution using profile stress analysis software as part of a three steps quality management concept.
Roll tool design for recurring profiles speeded up
A new feature of roll form design software UBECO PROFIL is the automatic creation of the flower pattern to speed up the roll tool design for recurring types of profiles substantially.
How to work with the virtual rollforming machine? First the roll tools are designed in usual manner by UBECO PROFIL.
Afterwards the rollform simulation with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) ist started.
In a computer simulation a flat piece of sheet is been led through the designed rolls.
At the end the 3D-drawing of the finished profile with all faults that would arise in the real rollforming machine is obtained.
The designer checks by dimensioning if the deformation is within the given allowances and decides whether the roll tools can be manufactured now or the design has to be modified.
Colors inform him about stress and strain within the profile and help to locate in which pass the problem occurs.
This helps him to be sure that his roll tools produce a profile that fits the customer's need.
Under the user interface of the rollform design software UBECO PROFIL runs the FEA solver ABAQUS/Explicit from ABAQUS Inc., Rhode Island.
Customer's advantage is that the designer do not need to be experienced in FEA to get the benefit from the FEA simulation.
