Dormer launches DIN standard thread tap range

A Dormer Tools product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Feb 8, 2010

Dormer has launched a range of DIN standard multi-application taps, which are said to offer improved thread quality, increased productivity and reduced cost per threaded hole.

The Spectrum taps are said to be of interest to anyone performing threading operations in steel, alloy steel, stainless, cast iron, copper and aluminium.

The range complements the company's existing ranges of ISO and ANSI standard multi-material taps.

Designed to promote a continuous production process, all Spectrum taps feature a three radii flute profile with a constant rake angle that facilitates the creation of narrow, regular chips.

This, combined with adequate flute space, results in negligible chip congestion, Dormer said.

Chip evacuation is further enhanced by the short thread length, which has the added benefit of reducing torque during threading.

Manufactured from premium quality vanadium powder steel for superior edge strength and wear resistance, an increase in tool life of 30-70 per cent is achievable with Spectrum taps compared with standard DIN taps, Dormer claimed.

The Spectrum taps are currently available in metric thread form, in spiral point or spiral flute geometries with a choice of bright or steam-tempered finish and either 6H or 6G tolerance.

Metric fine, UNC, UNF and G-thread forms will be added to the range in September 2010.

The product launch is supported by a brochure that includes full range details, dimensional data and optimum operating conditions.
