Moulded pulp wine packs as a commodity packaging item for protection of wine bottles during shipping and handling are now available from UFP Technologies.

With a universal part that serves as the top, bottom and middle insert (for six-bottle configurations), UFP said that its moulded fibre is ISTA-3-A certified for use in small package environments.

Available in one, two, three, four, six, nine and 12-bottle configurations, the Wine Shipper is made from 100 per cent recycled news print and requires no tooling investment from the user.

Moulded fibre's inherent resilience and blocking and bracing capabilities enable it to outperform most vacuum-formed plastic, expanded polystyrene, and corrugated designs, according to UFP.

Because the fibre is made from abundantly available recycled paper, UFP claimed that its product is a cost-effective choice compared to other packaging media that have high raw material costs.

For most applications, moulded pulp is less expensive than expanded polystyrene, vacuum formed PET and PVC, corrugated and plastic film suspension packs, resilient foams and die-cut corrugated materials, said the company.

Additionally, moulded fibre offers claimed easy pack-out as a moulded part, minimal warehousing requirements because of its ability to nest and low disposal costs.

The fibre's inherent moisture content does not fluctuate significantly, even in especially humid environments, thereby maintaining its structural performance characteristics.

That has been an important factor in assuring successful shipments to high humidity locations such as the southern USA and various international locations, added UFP.
