Latest version of PLM - in the manufacturing area - offers new and extended capabilities in NC programming, such as high speed milling, and mold and die tool design.

UGS has released the latest version of NX, its digital product development solution In the area of manufacturing, NX 4 offers new and extended capabilities in NC programming and mold and die tool design, as shown at the EMO 2005 show, Hanover

* NC Programming in NX - ranked the number one CAM vendor in the world - based on total CAM software revenue - by industry analyst firm CIMdata for the forth year in a row, UGS is a leader in comprehensive machine tool programming solutions.

NX 4 offers new and extended capabilities for NC programming in the key areas of general and high speed milling, multi-axis milling and support for advanced machines such as mill-turn machines.

In addition we are supporting faster and easier programming with the new Manufacturing Wizard Builder.

* General and high speed milling - NX 4 offers a new plunge milling capability aimed at much faster material removal rates in roughing operations.

An enhanced trochoidal toolpath provides controlled tool embedding with variable diameter loops.

The NX machining database is extended to make it easier to select optimised machining parameters.

* Multi-axis milling - NX 4 offers new capabilities in contour profiling for faster programming as well as a brand new curvature matching function that significantly reduces machining times by constantly adjusting the tool axis to match the cutter radius to the material surface.

* Multi-function machining - NX 4 makes it easier to set up the synchronisation manager for multiple devices on each channel.

Milling and turning functions can share a dynamic model of the in-process work-piece while for turning operations, and a new spun solid capability creates the stock shape for mill-turn parts, all making it easier, faster and more reliable when programming complex machines with NX 4.

* Programming automation - n NX 4, the Manufacturing Wizard Builder requires no computer software capabilities, just 'drag and drop'.

The resulting NC programming 'wizards' can be used by less skilled users, and helps in the reuse and the implementation of best practices.

* Machining simulation - NX 4 adds new capabilities to NX's internal machining simulation with support for machines with non-orthogonal heads as well as collision checking with non-active tools.

A plug in module sourced from Siemens provides controller-driven simulation, enabling a higher level of simulation accuracy for the Siemens 840D controller.

* Machine Tool Support Kits - in addition, UGS is collaborating with a number of machine builders to offer proven post processors.

Together with the advanced machining simulation in NX, these will provide the basis for complete machine tool support kits, especially important for advanced machine tools, such as mill-turn multi-function machines.

These support kits, with proven post processors, will make it easier and faster to implement new machines.

* Mold and die tool design in NX - with NX 4 the tool design applications, aimed at injection mold, progressive die and automotive die design, all see additional functions.

With a focus on increased process automation and integration across key functions, NX Tooling applications are aimed at reducing tool delivery times, and making the overall process more efficient.

* NX Electrode Design - this new application is aimed at making it easier and faster to design electrodes, needed for the manufacturing of many mold and die tools.

The application provides an extension to NX mold and progressive die design, and integrates with the NX Machining software.

* Manufacturing information and process management - the NX software was shown at EMO in conjunction with UGS' Teamcenter Manufacturing, a system that addresses manufacturing information and process management.

For NX applications Teamcenter provides a Managed Development Environment (MDE) with integrated tools in manufacturing for process planning, managing work instructions, and tool and fixture management.
