64-bit enabled HP workstations, offer enhanced capabilities for a variety of NX applications while continuing to support existing 32-bit software solutions.

UGS, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, has announced its flagship digital product development software, NX will natively support Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition on HP Personal Workstations enabled with Intel EM64T or AMD64 processors The sophisticated implementation will allow customers to deploy HP workstations in an environment that enables 64-bit NX applications while simultaneously running existing 32-bit applications

"UGS and HP have had a close working relationship for more than 17 years with a mutual goal of ensuring that we deliver the highest quality and best performance products to our customers as quickly as possible and then back them up with world-class support," said Chris Kelley, vice president, UGS Partner Program.

"This announcement will enable our NX customers to realise improvements in a variety of processor-intensive tasks such as large assembly manipulation, complex product design, advanced engineering analysis and simulation and multi-axis tool path generation.

And they can take advantage of all this while continuing to run their 32-bit office applications on 64-bit enabled workstations." With more than a decade of experience delivering 64-bit code on UNIX and delivering 32-bit code on Windows, both UGS and HP give customers access to a support team capable of responding quickly to their needs.

In order to maintain the highest level of support for UGS customers, HP has dedicated on-site resources at UGS facilities to provide rapid certification and workstation support.

"HP continues our commitment to providing UGS customers powerful, industry-leading solutions that enhance their product development processes," said Jim Zafarana, vice president and worldwide marketing manager, Workstation Global Business Unit, HP.

"HP has more experience with UGS applications on 64-bit than any other platform provider and more than 10 years of 64-bit operating experience.

By making use of our extensive knowledge and proven workstation technology, HP offers UGS customers a seamless implementation path for their 64-bit application while protecting their 32-bit environment." UGS applications running on HP Personal Workstations with the Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition offers several benefits:.

* High Performance Platform for Next Generation Applications - a robust platform that enables the next generation of high-performance computing for 64-bit native applications and can deliver more data per clock cycle, making them run faster and more efficiently.

* Large Memory Support - supports up to 16 GB (gigabytes) of RAM and 16 TB (terabytes) of virtual memory, enabling applications to easily manipulate large data sets.

* Compatibility - a rich platform to integrate 64-bit technical applications and existing 32-bit business applications provide customers with the ability to move to 64-bit computing without having to sacrifice their existing investment in 32-bit software and Windows expertise.

* Multiprocessing - designed to support multi-core and multiprocessing capabilities for maximum performance and scalability.

Testing has demonstrated that some NX functions will run up to 50 per cent faster in a multi-core environment, offering significant benefits for many complex applications found in the automotive, aerospace and consumer products industries.

UGS' support for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition will be available with the next release of NX scheduled to begin shipping in the fourth quarter of this year.

UGS customers can upgrade to a 64-bit platform today via HP upgrade programs.
