UGS Introduces Teamcenter Express

A Siemens PLM Software product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Oct 3, 2005

Teamcenter Express is part of the new UGS Velocity Series portfolio and delivers scalable data management with low total cost of ownership.

UGS Corp, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, has announced Teamcenter Express, the breakthrough collaborative product data management (PDM) solution built for ease-of-use and fast deployment that serves as a key component of the UGS Velocity Series the company announced recently.

UGS made the announcement at its 2005 Solid Edge User Summit and Executive Symposium.

The new UGS Velocity Series portfolio marks the PLM industry's first comprehensive, preconfigured portfolio of digital product design, analysis and data management software and the entry point into the company's powerful Teamcenter platform.

UGS Velocity Series is the first mid-market offering to combine industry-proven digital product development solutions with the unparalleled technology of UGS' Teamcenter.

"UGS' research has absolutely nailed the needs of manufacturing companies in the mid-market segment," said Monica Schnitger, senior vice president, Market Analysis, Daratech "The announcement of the UGS Velocity Series illustrates a clear commitment by UGS to provide solutions to the mid-market while offering a clear path for future scalability, unmatched by competitive offerings targeted at the mid-market".

"The inclusion of Teamcenter Express in the UGS Velocity Series provides UGS with an important advantage as they seek to expand their presence in the mid-market and build on the solid foundation of NX and Solid Edge.

Teamcenter Express applies breakthrough, pre-configured industry best practices to provide ease of installation, setup, ease of use and support, for a low total cost of ownership.

It manages the complete design process for engineering organisations currently experiencing a data explosion brought on by rapidly expanding product complexity.

To minimise IT implementation and maintenance costs, the product is designed for the standard process in a Microsoft environment, as well as pre-configured with workflows from UGS' years of PDM experience.

This also provides low total cost of ownership, while remaining scalable to the full Teamcenter portfolio as customer needs grow.

With complete Teamcenter compatibility, suppliers have an unparalleled level of compliance with OEM processes, allowing them to grow their OEM business, while improving customer satisfaction without the costs associated with custom deployments.

"Teamcenter Express is built on a common database architecture that promotes data sharing for coordinated release and engineering order processes to help organisations dramatically improve the speed, efficiency and quality of product development from concept to manufacturing," said Barry Dudley, business unit director, UGS Velocity Series Product Development, UGS.

"It is easy to implement, learn and use so customers see immediate benefits in areas such as increased design reuse and more effective supplier collaboration.

Teamcenter Express promotes project-wide collaboration via standard electronic data exchange and visualisation formats, including popular PCF and JT.

Furthermore, Teamcenter Express is built on UGS' "Open by Design" strategy so it can manage data created by third-party software tools in addition to UGS product data.

Teamcenter Express can be coupled with a wide variety of computer-aided design (CAD) applications including UGS' Solid Edge and NX as well as CATIA, AutoCAD, Inventor and SolidWorks.

It also integrates with a variety of market-leading ERP solutions for consistent bill of materials (BOM) management.
