New open solution allows Inventor users to immediately exploit the benefits of the world's top product lifecycle management (PLM) software

UGS, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, has announced a new software solution marketed by Incat under the brand Iconnect that makes the Teamcenter platform, UGS' extensive digital lifecycle management portfolio of applications and the world's most widely used PLM solution, immediately available to all worldwide users of Autodesk Inventor 2D/3D computer-aided design (CAD) software This new designer-centric offering, developed in conjunction with Incat, a Foundation Partner in the UGS Partner Program, operates inside Inventor to access and manage design data stored within Teamcenter

Operating seamlessly between Inventor and Teamcenter's product knowledge management and collaboration environment, the Autodesk-certified solution ensures that designs are secure, reusable and accessible, and further enhances Teamcenter's value to small and mid-size organisations as well as large, extended enterprises.

With this product, UGS and Incat are now able to bring Teamcenter's flexible engineering process management to Autodesk Inventor users, seamlessly and easily.

Autodesk Inventor users can now more effectively take advantage of the full range of Teamcenter products, including those focusing on New Product Development and Introduction, Global Product Development and Regulatory Compliance.

"When we decided to design and build this solution, we knew that it had to be designer-centric, easy to learn and easy to use," said Tanuj Bansal, managing director of Incat Products "We built the solution right inside Inventor, so Inventor users do not have to work outside of their work environment".

"Inventor users can now access data in the Teamcenter system to improve design efficiency and reduce product development costs with concurrent engineering, where-used analysis and automatic part numbering".

"Additionally, by providing an improved ability to reuse and share product models, users can spend more time adding value through design innovation and less time reinventing the wheel." This announcement is part of UGS' ongoing strategy to develop open solutions that respond to industry needs and produce significant benefits for customers of all sizes.

Recently, UGS announced the UGS Velocity Series, a PLM portfolio aimed at the unique requirements of mid-market manufacturers, which includes enterprise-class data management functionality through a new product called Teamcenter Express.

By adding support for Autodesk Inventor to any Teamcenter implementation, UGS further enhances the value it can deliver to each Inventor user, many of whom work for small- to medium-size manufacturers.

In addition, this announcement further expands Teamcenter's industry-leading list of third-party CAD applications managed through its multi-CAD data management capability.

"UGS continues to lead the PLM industry by responding to customer demands for open solutions that promote interoperability and standardisation," said Chris Kelley, vice president, UGS Partner Program.

"By working with companies like Incat to help expand the universe of applications that interoperate with UGS' software solutions, we are making it easier for all companies to share in the benefits of PLM while continuing to exploit their existing applications.".
