Leading Australian Defence Contractor, Seal Solutions, Selects the UGS Velocity Series for Product Design, Analysis and Data Management.

UGS, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, has announced Smart Engineering and Logistics Solutions Pty (Seal Solutions), a leading Australian defence contractor, has standardised on the UGS Velocity Series portfolio, the first comprehensive, preconfigured portfolio of digital product design, analysis and data management software for the PLM mid-market Seal Solutions provides high quality engineering and logistics design, manufacture and logistics engineering services

Seal Solutions licensed the UGS Velocity Series portfolio with Solid Edge CAD software, Femap FEA software and Teamcenter Express for digital lifecycle management.

The company cited the ability to scale to UGS' full PLM portfolio for future expansion as a key factor in its selection.

"Our biggest challenge was finding a full and integrated PLM system that fit our requirements," said Ben Hudson, engineering manager, Seal Solutions.

"We needed a system that fit our company's size, timeframe and budget without significant IT overhead".

"The UGS Velocity Series seems to have been developed with companies like ours in mind".

"Fast implementation was critical to our decision".

"In addition, Teamcenter Express' scalability to full Teamcenter as well as its multi-CAD support means we can electronically collaborate with our suppliers and customers that may use different CAD systems." Seal Solutions will use the UGS Velocity Series to manage its design and development projects with various defence bodies, including an Australian government project for Land Rover 110 vehicle safety improvement modifications.

This project aims to improve the safety of the Australian Regional Force Surveillance vehicle fleet, which is currently used in Iraq".

""This is an important sale proving that small- and mid-sized manufacturing companies in Asia Pacific are ready for PLM," said Barry Bevis, managing director, Edge Software.

"We were able to deploy the UGS Velocity Series in a matter of weeks so that Seal Solutions could be live before year end".

"The efficiency and costs savings results from PLM software traditionally focused on large companies make it harder for smaller manufacturers to compete".

"Now, UGS provides the technology in a preconfigured and affordable format for small- and mid-sized manufacturers to significantly level the playing field." "This sale highlights the need for PLM at the mid-market level," said Bruce Boes, vice president, UGS Velocity Series Marketing.

"The UGS Velocity Series meets the requirements of mid-market manufacturers unlike any other product combination in the industry".

"The ability to leverage preconfigured industry best practices allowed us to deploy the technology to meet Seal Solutions' needs." Seal Solutions is supported by both its local certified UGS reseller, Edge Software in Australia, and the UGS Global Technical Assistance Centre.
