Big order led to new machine purchases
Following the winning of a 12 month contract for three million components from an American fastener company, Unicut Precision immediately ordered two CNC sliding head automatic lathes.
Machining solution was a burner for gas fires
It was the capability of subcontract machinist to provide single operation turning solutions that took some 20 per cent out of the price of gas fire burner heads and ensured total consistency.
Adding to the September sales forecast will be a recent GBP 200,000 contract for fasteners won from one of America's leading aerospace companies as a result of a visit to the US during early July and the successful supply of pre-production parts.
Unicut is a prime example of a precision machining company that has 'tooled up' to meet smaller batch requirements of complex turned parts.
Says Jason Nicholson joint managing director: "We spent GBP 1.3 million on Citizen CNC sliding head automatic lathes over the last two years which has enabled us to react quickly to customer demands.
We can now provide competitive priced components to high quality levels and meet the tight delivery times you would have laughed at, just a couple of years ago." In-line with the production equipment both Jason Nicholson and co-director Charles Kenny have invested heavily in training to maximise the performance of its 11 Citizen machines.
It is very common to combine between two and five separate operations into one 'single-hit' cycle eliminating jigs and fixtures, work queues and reducing the likelihood of quality problems.
