No blues sung at subcontract machinists'
Such has been the upsurge in the fortunes of Unicut Precision that July and August have set record sales and profit levels for its precision sub-con tract machining business.
It has invested more than GBP 1.8 million in the latest CNC mill/turn centres and seen sales increase by 18 per cent in 2003.
Central to its sub-contract business is the ability to provide a design for production consultancy service which enables customers to benefit from shorter machining cycles and lead time reduction as well as cost-effective pricing.
Quite often due to the high levels of machining capability from the 11 Citizen and two Star machines installed, Unicut has been able to combine several components of an assembly into a single part and drastically reduce separate operations on component features into a single 'one-hit' cycle.
Says joint managing director, Jason Nicholson: "This will obviously be a factor in the components we are putting up for the visitor challenge and it will be very interesting to see how close people can get to our proven cycle times." The track days experience can be taken at any time during the year at any one of 17 major car and motorcycle tracks in the UK.
Typical drives include rallying, supercar, Porsche, Mini, BMW, skid pan, first and advanced driving as well as single seater, classic cars and off-road.
