No blues sung at subcontract machinists'
Such has been the upsurge in the fortunes of Unicut Precision that July and August have set record sales and profit levels for its precision sub-con tract machining business.
This system allows overlapped operations and simultaneous front and back machining of a component up to 42 mm diameter." This method of production has been the forte of Unicut Precision's success that saw the 18 man company grow some 18 per cent during 2003.
Maintains co-managing director, Charles Kenny: "Our current machine installation of 11 of the latest Citizen and two Star CNC sliding head mill/turn CNC centres do not accommodate this size of material.
We have found that new customers have been requesting us to provide the same level of service on larger work, as they have been obtaining from us on parts up to 32mm diameter." The company has been benefiting from new opportunities to become premium suppliers involving very complicated, high-class work and here, after looking around MACH 2004, the decision was made to place the order for the Miyano which will be fitted with an IEMCA KID70, one metre short bar feed.
The machine has a 42mm capacity by 100mm turning length, is powered by 11kW, 5,000 revs/min main and 5.5kW, 5,000 revs/min sub-spindle.
It has a 12-station turret with six driven tools having 0.2 sec indexing.
Each driven tool has 2.5kW, 4,000 revs/min drive.
