Machine combines form, fill seal and vacuum shrink
Innovative machine designed for the fresh meat and cheese markets combines horizontal form, fill seal technology with vacuum shrink packaging.
When Blakeman's fresh produce manager Rob Johnson, mentioned that he was looking for a quality packaging machine to a salesman from one of Ulma's customers, the response was immediate: "Why not use Ulma? We do and we have never found anyone to match them." Coincidentally the salesman even had pictures of just right machine, the Ulma Nevada, on his laptop computer.
As a result of the recommendation, Johnson contacted Ulma's UK base at Worksop, Nottinghamshire, where a visit was arranged to the company's Spanish headquarters to see the Nevada at first hand.
The deal was quickly done and the machine is now operating very well, said Ulma.

Blister packaging machine integrates operations
A leading packaging specialist is targeting the non-food sector with its latest blister packaging machine that integrates all operations necessary into one automatic line.
Johnson said: "It is exactly right for our needs.
It really is very good and is coping easily with between 15,000 and 16,000 packs of sausages of one or two kilos each week.
There is even spare capacity should we need it, as it can operate at up to 30 packs per minute if required." The Nevada has been developed out of Ulma's experience of putting together packaging machines and the incorporation of the most up-to-date electronic technology, said the company.
Key features of the Nevada include its construction in a range of versions, its ease of operation and cleaning, and its reliability, said Ulma.
It has been designed and built to ensure it complies with stricter hygiene and safety standards demanded by the UK's food industry.
The system installed for Blakeman includes a T160 shrink tunnel and uses either standard polyolefin film or, if a modified atmosphere package is wanted for extended shelf life, a barrier shrink film.
Versatility is one of the things which impressed Johnson, who commented: "We had looked at tray sealing for some time but had thought it too limiting because of the time and cost of tool changes.
We wanted something which was highly flexible and that is exactly what we have got.
The Nevada really is top-class and is performing very well." He added: "We have been so impressed with everything we have seen and learned about Ulma that we will not hesitate to return if and when the need arises.".
