Ulma UK is keeping its proactive partnership with a supermarket by ensuring the retailer's fresh produce benefits from the company's wrapping equipment The supermarket's own-brand produce packing operations throughout the UK use high-speed horizontal flowrappers and vertical baggers to create maximum efficiency

Derek Paterson, Ulma UK's director, commented: "We have had a long and successful relationship based on our focus on providing sensibly-priced machines that perform well over many years and can handle various films.

We give objective advice about the most suitable systems and customers feel confident about entering in to a partnership with us as their long-term success is our priority." The produce packing centres are at the supply hub for the supermarket chain's continuous operations, so the durability and reliability of the Ulma equipment is vital, as is the engineering support provided.

As Derek Paterson added: "The supermarket knows that standardisation and spares stockholding based on commonality of parts reduces long-term costs.

This approach allows each packing site to run in a similar way, using identical systems to further reduce overheads." The Ulma machines in use include the Atlanta Hi Tech high speed horizontal flowrapper and the Etna Hi Tech high speed vertical bagging system.

The Atlanta is incorporated in to automatic packing lines and can accommodate a range of automatic and semi-automatic feeders.

Capable on some applications of up to 150 packs per minute, it can work with BOPP, PVC, polyester cellulose, complex laminates and cold sealing films.

The machine is claimed to provide flexibility, with packaging lengths of 90mm - 450mm and 10mm - 250mm wide.

The touch screen console stores up to 50 different product parameters and provides status information including adjustments, along with diagnostics.

A full Windows based system is also available.

The Etna Hi Tech vertical form fill and seal machine is said to be suitable for potatoes, carrots, florets and salads, as well as other fresh produce and is fully servo driven, accurate and virtually maintenance free.

An interactive touch screen user interface provides format changes and self diagnosis.

Also claimed to be capable of producing up to100 block-bottomed or four-sided packs per minute, its construction makes it suitable for demanding retail packing operations, whilst its compact footprint, strong frame and mechanical reliability, together with access and maintenance make it appropriate for current and future needs, said Ulma.
