Ulma extends flower life

An Ulma Packaging product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Jul 7, 2006

Ulma Packaging , has perfected a solution for wrapping up flowers into sealed bunches and bouquets

The innovative solution uses the company's PV-350LSHiX flow wrapping machine and can extend the shelf-life of the flowers by a further two to three days.

Two packaging solutions are offered on the PV-350LSHiX, each offering controlled atmosphere environments, which is the secret behind the longer flower life.

In the first solution the film is offered in a fixed size, which is ideal for pre-cut flowers, the second packaging method is ideal for random length flowers and the film is cut to the required length by the Ulma PV-350LSHiX.

Capable of operating at speeds of up to 50 packs per minute, the machine can even accommodate labelling on the top and bottom of the pack.

One of the reasons Ulma developed the PV-350LSHiX for this kind of packaging is the machine's ability to easily handle the wrapping of irregular and difficult to convey products.

The machine can cope with a maximum film width of up to 1000mm and has a jaw width of 400mm - making it suitable for even bridal bouquets.

Manufactured in stainless steel and anticorrosive materials, the PV-350LSHiX is supplied with a horizontal cross sealing jaw and three pairs of film feeding and sealing rollers.

An advanced console keeps the operator informed of the bagging process and alerts in the event of misplaced products.

The console also allows for storage of up to 20 different product parameters and provides status information including adjustments needed.

A range of optional extra items are available for the PV-350LSHiX, these include different infeed conveyors, wider sealing jaws and different gas flushing options.

Commenting, Ulma Packaging's UK business manager, Jerry Fletcher, says: "From initial research, we believe this solution is unique to our company and will provide growers with more packaging choice".

"The extended pack life is ideally suited to both busy supermarkets and also smaller florists, where in both cases flower wastage can account for a high percentage of lost profits.

Over the coming months, Ulma Packaging will be offering this new and exciting solution to flower growers and wholesalers throughout the UK.

The PV-350LSHiX is already used for wrapping a variety of different products including meats, fresh produce, cheeses and now Ulma can add flowers to the ever-expanding list.

This latest solution is just one from Ulma's extensive product line-up, providing solutions for all packaging needs in a variety of different markets.

And with all Ulma machines benefiting from the same high levels of reliability and robust construction, buyers can be sure of getting the best possible machine.
