A wide variety of machining centres include large-scale, multi-tasking/multi-axis types that combine vertical turning and boring with milling and drilling for many industries.

Unisales is a new organisation that has been established to market Unisign machine tools in Southern England Unisign, from the Netherlands, is a dynamic machine tool company that has had steadily growth producing CNC machining centres, mainly aimed at the small to mid range batch producer

Unisign's series of machines, the Univers, Uniport, Unicom and Unipro, cover the machining of virtually all materials and workpieces, from very small details up to extremely large castings and fabrications.

The Univers and Uniport series of machining centres are designed for producing mainly ferrous prismatic workpieces.

Both of these machine types are equipped with a powerful ram spindle.

In addition to the standard 3-axis movements, they can have rotary tables to provide full fourth axis capability.

Both machine types can have the capability of exchanging, under program command, substantial angular heads that in turn accept automatically changed tools from the tool magasine.

In addition, fully controlled turning tables can be included when needed, to allow 'one-hit' machining.

Turning operations utilise the ram spindle with an automatically changed tool adaptor to accept turning tools from the tool magazine.

These considerable and varied options enable various configurations from 3- through to 5-axis, to be provided.

The largest Uniport machining centre can be built with X axis over 18000mm, Y axis of 4600mm and Z-axis of 1600mm and workpiece height of 2000mm.

The Unicom series is intended for large workpieces such as engine casings, blower cases, motor casings, large clutch housings, jet engine related components, pump houses, bearing systems and similar parts.

This 4-axis machining centre with fixed portal bridge and moving table, has an integrated turning station, which can also be used as a 'C' axis.

A pallet system is integrated to allow work to be exchanged for loading/unloading.

The largest Unicom will handle pallets up to 1800mm diameter.

5-axis capability is available through a nutating head or by exchanging substantial and rigid angular heads, that in turn then accept automatically changed tools from the tool magazine.

The Unipro series has been developed for high speed machining and is available in various configurations, including rotary tables as a 4th axis, or rotating and tilting tables for true 5-axis machining.

A 45 degree mounting face for these tables facilitates excellent chip flow into the chip conveyor, which is located directly underneath the work area.

A single work area, or twin areas which allow pendulum operation, are available.

The Unisign motor spindle which has a speed range up to 25,000 rev/min and power of up to 100kW, coupled with the high rapid traverse rates, acceleration and deceleration of 8 m/sec2 (0,8 g), make the machine very suitable for aerospace and other demanding applications.

The Unisign cartridge type motor spindle integrated into the ram, is water cooled and offers extremely high rigidity and power density.

The spindle is provided with hybrid (ceramic) bearings with oil-mist lubrication and is equipped with a servo controlled hydraulic pressure system to adjust the pre-load of the bearings depending on spindle-load and spindle speed.

The advantages of this unique system is that bearing pre-load is fully automatic and is adapted to the operation to give substantially longer lifetime of the bearings, whilst also allowing a higher volume of metal removal in light alloy or ferrous materials.
