Fibre laser provides high-speed annealed marking

A Miyachi Unitek Corporation product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Jan 28, 2009

Miyachi Unitek is promoting its LMF2000 fibre laser marker for high-speed annealed marking on parts.

Laser annealing on steel or titanium creates an indelible mark without melting the material.

Aside from being visible from all viewing angles, annealing has a minimal effect on the material's corrosion resistance.

This is of particular importance when manufacturing products such as implantable medical devices or other medical instruments.

The laser annealing process typically requires the use of a heavily defocused beam and multiple passes; this creates an unstable process and an excessively long mark time.

The Miyachi Unitek LMF2000 fibre laser marker, however, with its high pulse rates and selectable peak power/pulse rate waveforms, enables single-pass annealed marking covering up to 0.04in2/s (25mm2/s).
