Thread milling is claimed to be faster than drill-and-tap procedures for producing threaded holes and can also chamfer, so reducing tooling rquirements.

A UK network of Vargus Threading Solution Providers has been announced by Vargus Tooling of Telford to offer customers an unrivalled level of service in the production of high precision threaded holes in diameters as small as 1.6mm Six UK companies are currently accredited as Vargus Threading Solution Providers, as follows

* ABT Machine Tools, Glasgow, tel: 01491 9581955.

* Castle Carbide, West Midlands, tel: 01384 457198.

* Evans Engineering, Holywell, tel: 01352 718032.

* Pennine Tools, Huddersfield, tel: 01484 519660.

* Trucut Tools, Poole, tel: 01202 717110.

* Waverley Cutting Tools, Aberdeen, tel: 01224 293895.

This specially-selected distributor network enables customers of the Vargus Threading Solution partner program to tap into an inexhaustible supply of threading expertise and to achieve benefits such as the following.

* Reduced cycle and set-up times in the creation of screw threads by thread milling on horizontal and vertical machining centres, rather than by the traditional route of drilling and tapping.

* Eliminated workpiece scrap caused by tap breakage.

* Lower overall tool costs by threading and chamfering using the same tool, and via minimised tool stocks.

Vargus Threading Solution Providers also offer a comprehensive range of market-leading tooling, including the innovative Vardex HeliCool-C and HeliCool-R: the former for thread milling and chamfering in a single operation.

The tools therefore reduce tooling requirements and tool changes and, as a result, tooling costs; and the latter for the consistent production of high-quality holes when conventional through-coolant is ineffective.

Also available, the Multi-flute Indexable Thread Mill (MiTM) is designed to reduce cycle times on the generation of large threads through the use of long inserts and multiple flute holders.
