Software is at heart of new training initiative

The new Technical Advancement Award to be launched by Northern Technologies at its Advanced Manufacturing Centre inthe UK will offer students the opportunity to train with CAD/CAM software.

The new Technical Advancement Award (TAA) being launched by Northern Technologies at the June 7th official opening if its Advanced Manufacturing Centre in Burnley, UK, will offer students and engineering apprentices in the North West the opportunity to train at first hand with Vero International Software's VISI Series CAD/CAM software.

Northern Technologies business development director Steve Wilkinson and David O'Hara, OEM sales manager of TAA module sponsors Vero International Software will launch the initiative which was originally sponsored through the GTMA but has now swapped to NT and been renamed by them.

Through the TAA initiative, member companies of NT have the opportunity of not only receiving training on the latest manufacturing software, but of using it - free of charge - for a year.

TAA has been designed to increase the level of high tech skills in the UK SME manufacturing sector.

The latest VISI-Series software will be provided at no cost for up to twelve months dependent on the chosen project and on a 'first-come, first-served' basis.

It is available to NT member companies who provide evidence that it will be used by a member of staff who is participating in a training programme and who propose a suitable application project.

Module 1 consists of the VISI-Series CAD/CAM software being supplied to the first companies to satisfy the straight forward eligibility criteria, details of which are available from the Advanced Manufacturing Centre in Burnley Vero's O'Hara comments; "Making VISI-Series available to this new audience will undoubtedly encourage skills development in a sector that sometimes struggles to attract the calibre of people needed as the engineers of the future".

" The TAA initiative presents the ideal opportunity for individuals and companies alike to demonstrate their willingness to embrace leading edge design and manufacturing techniques.

It is anticipated that future TAA Modules will include CNC simulation, EDI and E-Commerce and Engineering Project Management Software.
