Compact construction, competitive pricing, ease of use and excellent performance are among the benefits of the new Centra-R 200 packaged water purification system which ELGA Process Water has recently supplied to IDM Electronics in Reading Installed to replace an older system which had become unreliable and expensive to run, the new unit supplies high purity make up water, via an existing ring main, to the company's gold-plating plant

Ion exchange plant maintains van paint quality
Water quality determines paint finish on Transit vans so, when Ford's Southampton paint shop's ageing water treatment plant was reaching the end of its useful life, a new one was sought.
Water treatment cylinders avoid chemicals storage
By installing water treatment cylinders a UK manufacturer of precision 'O' rings, seals and mouldings has eliminated the storing and disposing of harmful chemicals required by the plant.
The maximum demand is 160 litres of water/h with a conductivity of 25 microS/cm or better.
In addition, it is also necessary to limit bacteria levels to 10 cfu/ml, to avoid bacterial build up in the ring main.
To address these requirements, IDM Electronics chose the Centra-R 200 after carefully considering a range of other options.

Counter-current short-cycle deioniser
A Rapide Strata counter-current short-cycle deioniser from ELGA Process Water has proved to be the ideal solution to Anglian Windows' requirements for increased volumes and improved water quality.
The unit, which uses reverse osmosis (RO), was preferred over ion-exchange systems as, unlike those systems, it does not require regeneration.
In addition, the Centra unit is supplied as a complete package measuring only 1820 x 730 x 890mm, which saves valuable space in IDM Electronics' production area.
Despite its small size, the Centra-R 200 incorporates not only an RO membrane, but also a 350 litre reservoir, a recirculation pump, a 0.2 micron filter for removal of particulate matter and a composite vent filter to prevent airborne gases entering the reservoir.
The compact enclosure also houses a UV photo-oxidation system to sanitise the product water which prevents bacterial problems in the ring-main without the need to install external sanitising equipment.
A multi-function electronic display panel makes it easy to monitor and control the operation of the system, and provides a readout of key parameters, including recirculation flow rate and status, product water quality and reservoir level.
The Centra packaged water treatment systems are delivered to site fully assembled and tested, making installation and commissioning fast and straightforward.
For IDM Electronics, this meant that the loss of production due to the interruption of plating operations during the changeover to the new system was minimised.
"The new system is meeting or exceeding all of our requirements," said Philip Millen of IDM Electronics, "And we are delighted with how little attention it needs.
Unlike our previous ion-exchange installation, the new system needs very little maintenance - just the occasional replacement of consumables, and the manual initiation of the automated disinfection routine." ELGA Pure Water's Centra packaged water purification systems of the type used by IDM Electronics provide a convenient and cost-effective method of supplying high purity water to distribution loops in a wide range of industrial, commercial and laboratory applications.
The units are available with or without an integral UV photo-oxidation unit, and have a maximum loop flow rate of 18 litres/min.
