VIA Technologies, a leading innovator and developer of silicon chip technologies and PC platform solutions, has announced the VIA P4M890 IGP chipset featuring leading edge interconnect and video display technologies, further expanding VIA's broad support for the Intel Pentium 4 platform and delivering new levels of performance and functionality for mainstream computing solutions Designed for the latest range of Intel Pentium 4 and Celeron processors supporting the 1066MHz FSB, the VIA P4M890 utilises the acclaimed VIA StepUp memory controller, delivering highly intuitive memory technologies for lightning fast access to system memory and optimum system performance into the mainstream IGP segment, and providing support for high bandwidth DDR2 memory up to 533MHz as well as support for DDR memory modules

The VIA P4M890 supports up to two high bandwidth PCI Express ports for optional connection to the latest generation PCI graphics cards, providing exceptional performance for gaming and other bandwidth-hungry applications, as well as an additional lane of PCI Express connectivity for PCI Express peripheral devices such as Gigabit Ethernet controllers and TV tuners.
"By integrating the best of VIA's discrete core logic technologies, such as advanced PCI Express connectivity and the VIA StepUp memory controller, to our IGP chipset solutions, the VIA P4M890 brings a new dimension to mainstream desktop systems," commented Chewei Lin, Vice President of Product Marketing, VIA Technologies, "Once again, VIA is able to offer mainstream users the ability to take advantage of such a flexible, feature-rich solution usually reserved for high end systems, and at an affordable price point." Based on the VIA UniChrome Pro graphics core, the VIA P4M890 delivers the Hi-Def experience through its integrated 2D/3D Chromotion CE video display engine for high quality DVD playback and exceptional multimedia performance, support for HDTV up to 1080p with a compatible DVI or TV encoder as well as outputs to CRT, LCD and standard definition TV.
The VIA P4M890 utilises the 533MB/s VIA V-Link interface for connection to the latest VIA South Bridge solutions such as the feature-rich VIA VT8237A with its integrated VIA Vinyl Multichannel Audio Suite, delivering rich, High Definition audio at resolutions as high as 32-bit/192kHz, while the VIA Advanced Connectivity Suite offers a wide range of high-bandwidth connectivity options, including support for up to eight high-speed USB 2.0 ports and high-throughput 10/100 Mb/s Fast Ethernet.
