Stereolithography photopolymer is quickly prototyping close-tolerance braking components that look and feel like injection-moulded injection-moulded thermoplastic parts.
Every component is carefully designed to the most exacting criteria, including even the most discreet - such as the exhaust diffuser.
Based in Austria, Fischer Composite Technology, works with some of the world's leading high performance automotive manufacturers.
The company had been recently commissioned to develop an exhaust diffuser that would meet a demanding list of product characteristics in terms of durability, heat, chemical and environmental resistance, impact strength and would fit with top of the range styling.
All this had to be achieved in just 13 weeks from concept to finished production component as well.
* Araldite RTM system - during the Araldite RTM process to produce the exhaust diffuser, dry pre-formed CFK/GFK fibres are put into a mould and injected with epoxy resin.
This visible outer side of the exhaust diffuser has a 12K Twill 2/2 carbon fibre surface.
A tough, high gloss lacquer paint finish protects the diffuser from ultra-violet light and other environmental elements.
"Working with Huntsman and this special Araldite RTM process we were able to develop and produce the prototype for this composite part in just ten weeks and we started production in under 13 weeks from the original customer contact," said Gerhard Koelbl, marketing and sales manager at Fischer Composite Technology.
He added: "The Araldite system was ideal for this application because it meets our requirements in TG (glass transition temperature) performance, rapid production schedule and gives a high quality finish that can be painted - and still look good after exposure to heat, exhaust emissions and the elements".
The exhaust diffuser is being fitted on a special limited edition of just 600 cars.
