Central Scotland's largest saw doctor has installed its third CNC saw blade grinder in response to customer demand.

Central Scotland's largest saw doctor Saw and Tooling Services has installed its third Walter Woodtronic CNC saw blade grinder in response to customer demand Supplied by Walter GB of Redditch, the latest machine - a Woodtronic CNC 5D - complements the company's existing Woodtronic CNC5 and NC4 saw blade grinders and, according to managing director Andy McIlwaine, has been installed to enable the company to keep pace with increasing demand for quality output for which the Edinburgh-based company is renowned

"While our first two Walter machines effectively 'opened up' the benefits of modern saw blade grinding technology to both us and our customers," comments Andy McIlwaine, "this latest machine reflects how our customer base is increasingly demanding the benefits of modern saw grinding technology in terms of, for example, increased productivity and machining accuracy.

"The Woodtronic CNC 5D has a unique compensating factor for stock removal that ensures minimal carbide is removed from the saw blade every time.

This feature, which is only available on the CNC 5D, increases the life of the saw blade by around 30 per cent and is a major benefit to our customers." Designed for the single-setting grinding of teeth faces and tops, the Woodtronic CNC 5D can handle circular saw blades of 80 mm to 850 mm diameter, up to 8mm thick and with tooth pitches of 4mm to 125mm.

Grinding spindle drive is 1.1kW producing spindle speeds of 3,500 rev/min and cutting speeds of 26m/sec.

The use of linear guideways and ballscrews, coupled with three-phase servo motors, ensures consistent high-precision grinding.

The Woodtronic is supplied as standard with a series of software programs covering all tooth blade geometries, including the Brunswick geometry, where all types of deflection shoulders and chip grooves can be ground, and Walter's Free programming package.

Free programming allows operators to quickly and easily create programs for any tooth shape and combinations of tooth shapes within the specified diameter.

The machine can be pre-programmed without interrupting a grinding operation, thus minimising downtime and increasing utilisation and output.

"As always," adds Andy McIlwaine, "we investigated alternative machines and suppliers when looking to invest in another saw blade grinder.

"And, as before, Walter GB's Woodtronic package offered the best quality and value for money package in terms of machine capability and service back-up." With compliments:.
