CNC saw blade grinder is 30 per cent
faster
Saw blade regrinding specialist has installed an ultra-fast CNC saw blade grinder to meet increasing demand for tungsten tip blade regrinding.
Saw blade regrinding specialist Sawtec of Eastleigh, Hants, has installed the ultra-fast Woodtronic Rapide CNC 5D saw blade grinder from Walter GB to meet increasing demand for tungsten tip blade regrinding Capable of processing tooth faces and tops, the Woodtronic Rapide can handle circular blades of 80mm to 850mm diameter, up to 12mm thick and with tooth pitches of 4mm to 125mm

Tool grinder meets rising aerospace demand
Rising order levels from its aerospace customer base have prompted cutting tool specialist, Techni-grind (Preston), to buy a Walter Helitronic Power Regrinder tool and cutter grinder.
The machine promises to complete production routines up to 30 per cent faster than previously possible, and it was this benefit - coupled with the incorporation of a three-pallet Loader that allows up to 120 blades of different diameter to be processed in any order - that Sawtec managing director Brian Bourne quotes as being two of the main reasons for choosing the Rapide over competitor products.
"Other comparative machines offered only a two pallet loading system and because of the length of these, major alterations to the factory would have been needed to accommodate them," he says.
"Another crucial aspect in my decision to invest in the Woodtronic Rapide is the fact that the machine offers tooth production routines of up to 30 per cent faster than previously possible.

Cameras measure tooling without touching
Walter GB of Redditch has announced a new concept in low-cost, simple-to-operate, non-contact tool measurement with the Heli Toolcheck. The machine is designed for manual or automatic operation.
With its solid structure, the Woodtronic also appears to be the most rigid and robust alternative.
The level of backup from Walter GB at Redditch is impressive, too." The Rapide's capability for ultra fast tooth production routines depends in part on developments in the Walter Window Mode control software.
Featuring Walter's Free Programming package, the system allows operators to quickly and easily create programs for any tooth shape and combination of tooth shapes within a specified diameter.
In addition, the saw blade indexing unit's optional cross-slide functionality enables tooth pitch variations to be automatically and quickly calculated, thus reducing set-up times when machining batches of blades of varying diameter.
The Woodtronic Rapide's CNC 5D's grinding spindle drive is 1.1kW, producing spindle speeds of 3,000 revs/min and cutting speeds of 26m/sec.
The use of linear guideways and ballscrews coupled with three-phase servo-motors having closed loop positional control ensures consistent high-precision grinding.
The machine is supplied as standard with a series of software programs covering all tooth geometries - including the Brunswick geometry, allowing all types of deflection shoulder and chip grooves to be ground.
The three-pallet Loader enables up to 120 saw blades of 160mm to 750mm diameter to be accommodated and the Loader can be pre-programmed without interrupting a grinding operation, thus minimising downtime and increasing utilisation and output.
