Machine tool builders represented in the UK by Ward CNC will be showing products ranging fom 2-axis CNC lathes to machining centres and large CNC milling machines.

Machine tool builders represented in the UK by T W Ward CNC Machinery, which will be showing new products at EMO 2007 include Soraluce, Takisawa Taiwan and Hankook Soraluce, for example, will show four new milling machines, while Takisawa Taiwan and Hankook will be showing their latest turning centres

Soraluce will be showing the following machines.

* TA-25-A bed-type milling machine - the TA-25-A CNC milling machine has travels in X, Y and Z of 2500mm x 1250mm x 1200mm and has rapid traverse rates in all axes of 25,000mm/min.

Feed rates are of 5-10,000mm/min.

The machine has a 24kW, 4,000 rev/min automatic indexing head (2.5 deg by 2.5 deg) and 20-tool automatic tool changer (ATC).

The machine can be fitted with various other types of heads and high-frequency electro-spindles.

Fitted as standard is the Heidenhain iTNC-530 CNC.

* SP-10,000 fixed-bed, moving column milling centre - the Soraluce SP-10,000 milling centre has X, Y and Z travels of 8500mm x 2000mm x 1500mm and similar traverse rates and CNC (with digital motors) as the TA-25-A.

The machine spindle has a 30kW, 5000 rev/min automatic indexing head for 0.001 deg by 0.001 deg movements in two indexing planes - vertical to the spindle and at 45 deg.

With through-the-spindle coolant and 60-tool ATC, the machine is capable of single set-up machining from heavy cutting through semi-finishing to finishing.

* FR-12,000 floor-type milling machine - Soraluce's new FR-12,000 floor-type miller/borer is also intended to perform single set-up machining.

It has X, Y and Z travels of 12,000mm x 3600 mm bx 1600mm.

Rapid traverse rates are also 25,000mm/min.

The 37kW, 4,000 rev/min orthogonal indexing head has two indexing planes - vertical to the spindle and at 90 deg - with positioning every 1 deg.

Control system is Heidenhain iTNC-530 directing digital motors.

The machine has a fixed horizontal boring head rated at 36kW, 4000 rev/min and an 80-tool ATC.

* FV-6,000 floor-type high-speed milling machine - the new Soraluce FV-6,000 floor-type milling/boring machine offers high-speed milling through Heidenhain iTNC-530 CNC combined with linear motors for cost-effective complete machining.

The machine has X, Y Z axis travels of 6000mm by 1700mm by 1000mm, and 60,000mm/min rapid traverse rates.

It has an automatic 'twist' head of 40kW/18 kW, rated at 8,000/20,000 rev/min for 0.001 deg by 0.001 deg positioning.

Simon Whitworth, managing director of Ward CNC said that his other principals will also be showing a host of machines at EMO.

* Takisawa Taiwan's new EX-322 turning centre - the machine is a 3-axis version of the highly successful EX-122/H - and has C-axis and driven tools.

Its outline specification includes a swing over the bed of 750mm and over the crosslide of 560mm.

Distance between centres is 1820mm.

Standard turning diameter is 450mm, and maximum turning diameter is 610mm and maximum turning length is 1530mm.

The EX-322 takes 184mm diameter bar.

The machine has a spindle speed of 12-1,200 rev/min from the 30/37kW main spindle motor, coupled with traverse rates in X- and Z-axis of 18 and 22m/min, respectively.

A 12-station turret is fitted.

* Hankook's 85BM turning centre - the 85BM turning centre is a derivative of the Protec 9NC and offers C-axis and driven tooling.

The large spindle bore machine (specification will be announced at EMO) twin chuck machine has a 950mm swing over bed, 630mm over carriage and 4000mm between centres (options up to 8000mm will be available).

A host of other machines are also being displayed at EMO by machine tool companies repesented by Ward CNC, including the following.

* Hartford - HSA-221 5AD five-face vertical machining centre (VMC); Pro-3150SG double-column VMC; Tornado HCMC-18SP heavy-duty VMC; Laurel MVH-5 twin-pallet HMC; Plug and Play MVP-13AD and MVP-10AD VMCs; Pro-1000AG heavy-duty VMC and Formula 1 LG-800AP VMC.

* Takisawa Taiwan - EX-910 twin-spindle CNC lathe with Y- and C-axis and driven tooling.

* Toshulin - Powerturn 2000 3-axis vertical turning lathe, rated at 60kW/22kW, with Fanuc 31i CNC, Capto C8 tooling and part probing.

* Union - DV 20 for heavy-duty boring and milling; Z-axis (ram headstock) of 1500mm travel.
