Ward selects EdgeCAM as preferred partner system

Ward CNC has selected the Planit Software EdgeCAM computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) system as the preferred partner for customers' NC part-programming routines.

The decision was made in response to the increasing uptake of four- and five-axis machining via Ward CNC's ranges of Hartford, Hyundai-Kia, Soraluce and Union multi-axis machining centres.

Viewed as the ideal complement to the Ward machines' conversational control systems - predominately Fanuc and Heidenhain CNCs - EdgeCAM offers good tool-path generation, according to Richard Shaw, applications manager at Ward CNC.

He said: 'More customers are demanding multi-axis routines - in many cases up to five-axis.

'And while our machines are more than capable of meeting customer requirements, the CAM technology ensures customers gain the maximum benefit in terms of cost-effective, highly flexible production routines.

'With this in mind, two members of our applications team are already fully conversant with the features and ability of EdgeCAM.


EdgeCAM reads native data from all major CAD systems, and its solids-based machining routines include automatic feature recognition and full model-to-tool path association.

The system offers a range of four- and five-axis strategies applicable to solids and surface geometry: including: multi-axis finishing across multiple surfaces, with control over lead/lag and side tilt angles; multi-axis profile machining for slotting, de-flashing and trimming of sheet forms; and full support for all common tool profiles, including lollipop cutters.
