Safety and security products save money
Specialising in systems for safety, security and control for vehicles, plant and machinery, systems are tailored for industrial use and often pay for themselves on reduced insurance premiums alone.
Called "It's In Your Hands", the campaign has been jointly mounted by the HSE, BSIF, the Safety Groups UK, the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS), the Institute of Occupational Medicine (IOM) and the TUC to promote improved skin care in industrial and commercial organisations.
The objective is to significantly reduce the incidence of work-related dermatitis (eczema), which can be caused by exposure to chemical agents and wet work, plants and bacteria, vibration, radiation and abrasion, and accounts for about 80% of work-related skin disease.
The campaign aims to reduce incidents of dermatitis by 20% by 2010.

Safety enclosure system adds safety in shutdowns
ASCO Joucomatic's new 2oo2D-SOV safety enclosure system is designed as a key component to provide added levels of operating safety in emergency shutdown systems (ESD) for process plant.
The campaign is targeted at high risk occupations including construction, hairdressing and beauty, printing and agriculture.
"In the construction industry, workers are regularly in prolonged contact with cement, brick dust and chemicals which can be hazardous to the skin," says Cheryl Beckwith.
"Dermatitis causes pain and discomfort and can, in the long run, cost industry millions of pounds every year in sickness, absence and retraining costs, as well as compensation paid out to victims and increased insurance premiums".
""The campaign encourages employers to undertake proper risk assessments and use the correct gloves and barrier creams for each task, including training employees in the risks to their skin associated with their work and the importance of wearing proper protective clothing and using the correct tools"".
"Geoff Hooke of the BSIF secretariat comments: "In setting up and managing the campaign, it was vital that the BSIF created a representative team of specialists.
Wakemans has been involved since the first planning meeting and Cheryl Beckwith has acted as the representative of the BSIF Association of Safety Professionals".
""Cheryl has, on many occasions, been able to bring some realism about the employer/employee relationship and specific workplace practices to the delivery of the campaign".
"Her involvement has been invaluable".
The ongoing campaign was launched at last year's Health and Safety Expo and is being monitored on a nationwide basis to measure its success.
