Good lighting improves productivity

A Waldmann Lighting product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Aug 24, 2005

Free book shows how good lighting can boost performance and productivity by describing how lighting can be measured and explaining the elements of good lighting.

Good lighting can boost performance and productivity, yet many companies do not realise where they are going wrong.

And they could be risking more than their bottom line.

If they are using machine tools that do not have appropriate lighting they could be contravening the requirements of the European Machinery Directive.

To help companies understand how to make light work for them and their workforce, Waldmann Lighting, the world's leading supplier of industrial lighting, has published a free hardback book explaining the principles of economic and ergonomic lighting in manufacturing environments.

Entitled 'Light in the Industrial Workplace' the 70-page book starts by describing how lighting can be used and measured.

It then explains the elements of good lighting, including general requirements, appropriate lighting levels, uniform illumination with no stroboscopic effects, colour quality, and the absence of glare or inappropriate shadow.

Having established what the ideal conditions should be, the book shows how to achieve them.

It clearly explains the different types of lights available and how to use them to their best effect.

As Graeme Hall, managing director of Waldmann Lighting, explains, "Studies of the long-term causal relationships between working conditions and performance clearly show the importance of good lighting".

"It need not cost much more to get the lighting right, and any extra expenditure will soon prove its value".

"The direct results of effective workplace lighting include reduced absenteeism, greater efficiency, improved concentration levels, fewer rejects and higher productivity - and Waldmann will provide free help and advice on getting it right.

Waldmann Lighting supplies a comprehensive range of industrial lighting, including fluorescent, LED and halogen machine tool lights, inspection lights, area and workstation illumination and task lighting.

All Waldmann machine lights meet and exceed the requirements of the European Machinery Directive on machine lighting as set out in EN 1837 and deliver at least 500 lux in the working area with no glare, shadowing or stroboscopic effect.
