Wheel blast machines clean 600 tonnes
steel/week

The installation of the second wheel blast machine will provide a structural steel fabricator with the capability to blast 600 tonnes of steel/week and process 450 tonnes/week.

Wheelabrator Group has completed an order for a second Wheelabrator Schlick wheel blast machine Wheelabrator has been supplying the Derby based company since 1992, and this is the third machine to be installed on the site

The second Wheelabrator Schlick 4 x 22kw 1.5m roller conveyor, using Wheelabrator TITAN 16.4 Eta wheel technology, will provide capacity for three complete lines to be running, increasing efficiency, capacity and productivity.

Each line consists of a back-to-back saw/drill combination machine, feeding via roller conveyor systems into the two Wheelabrator wheel blast machines.

The design takes into account future expansion to accommodate a fourth saw/drill combination, and allows material to be sent to either blast machine using a power glide cross transfer system.

The installation of the second wheel blast machine will provide Robinsons with the capability to blast 600 tonnes of steel per week and, dependent on the mix, one machine can process 450 tonnes per week.

Roger Gillanders, engineering director at Robinsons Construction, said: "Throughout the relationship with Wheelabrator, we have been delighted with the excellent after sales service received.

Therefore, they were an obvious choice when we needed to increase capacity by purchasing another new piece of shot blasting equipment".

He added: "This additional machine will provide us with increased capacity, allowing us to service more customers, more effectively and help us achieve our high business targets".

Within the Derby, UK, site, steel beams and plate are initially cut to length and drilled.

These lengths are then fed through the heavy-duty wheel blast machine to clean rust and prepare the surface prior to fabrication.

The entire process takes place on one production line, minimising any set-up times, reducing machine down time and increasing the speed and efficiency of the overall process.

Jay Dorling, general sales manager, Wheelblast UK at Wheelabrator Group, said: "At Wheelabrator Group we not only pride ourselves on delivering total surface preparation solutions, but also on the level of customer service we provide and aim to build and cement strong relationships, bringing benefits to both parties".

Chris Beaumont, now regional manager, Scandinavia, at Wheelabrator Group, who was also instrumental on this project, added: "Through the strength of our relationship with Robinsons Construction we have been able to supply them with efficient and productive machines, which have enabled them to achieve their production and capacity targets.

It's encouraging to see our customers returning to us with repeat orders for new equipment, which enables them to meet their aggressive production targets".

Along with the purchase of the new wheel blast machine, Robinsons has also utilised the services of Wheelabrator Plus, Wheelabrator Group's after-market division.

Wheelabrator told manufacturingtalk that Wheelabrator Plus offers a range of services for surface preparation equipment, including the following.

* Equipment modernisation.

* Spare parts.

* Training.

* Maintenance and service programmes.

* Abrasive media and consumables.

Through this programme, Wheelabrator has maintained and serviced Robinsons' existing machines, ensuring they remain efficient and increasing the longevity of their investments.

Gillanders commented: "Wheelabrator Group has enabled us to achieve a better return on our investments, by providing us with high quality, high efficiency machinery that lasts for longer.

The service received from the Wheelabrator Plus team is just another example of how Wheelabrator Group offers that little bit extra to its customers, and why we returned to them for our additional requirements".

Wheelabrator Group owns, designs, manufactures and provides wheelblast, airblast and vibratory mass finishing equipment for surface preparation and cleaning, and services a variety of sectors, including the aerospace and automotive industries. Request a free brochure from Wheelabrator Group ...
