Surface preparation equipment manufacturer, Wheelabrator Group, has scheduled a forum on May 21, 2008, to discuss understanding of current UK legislation on noise emissions in the work place.

Surface preparation specialists, Wheelabrator Group, will be sharing its expertise by hosting a Noise Emissions Knowledge Forum on Wednesday May 21, 2008 The free half day event will run 8.30-13.30h at Wheelabrator Group's Surface Technology Centre in Birmingham, UK

'Noise Emissions in the Work Place' will be chaired by Steve Garritt, S and D Garritt, who runs an independent Noise and Vibration Consultancy and has over 25 years experience in noise control and acoustics .

Attendees will gain an understanding of current UK legislation on noise emissions in the work place and acceptable exposure limits (threshold limits), impartial advice on best practice to help you provide appropriate levels of protection for your workers and solutions on noise control methods for your surface preparation requirements.

The HSE estimated that over 1 million employees are exposed every day to noise levels that are putting their hearing at risk.

Currently 170,000 people suffer from deafness, tinnitus or other hearing conditions due to exposure to excessive noise in the workplace.

That amounts to one in 26 people in the workplace, so consider how many of your employees could be effected.

* Loud noises harm in the long term - most noise induced hearing damage is caused by prolonged exposure to loud noises, and many people don't realise there's a problem until it's too late, said Wheelabrator to manufacturingtalk.

The levels at which noise can be damaging are actually a lot lower than many people realise, and it doesn't just effect industries such as construction, demolition, road engineering and plastics processing.

When selecting new machinery, the HSE states that companies should demonstrate that they have taken noise levels into account, and recommend purchasing from suppliers who apply a low-noise design.

Wheelabrator Group believes that the health and safety of people who use their machines is vitally important, and this is a major consideration when designing and manufacturing equipment.

As industry leaders they are committed to providing a first class service to customers, along with offering the latest industry knowledge and expertise.

Wheelabrator Group wants to provide the safest machines that comply with the latest legislation.

They help customers provide the right level of protection to their workers, through extensive research into reducing noise emissions from new machinery, as well as providing information on how customers can limit levels in their existing machines through an equipment modernisation programme.
