A granulator and materials feed package that, together with a new all-electric moulding machines, is set to transform the production of filter housings.

Wittmann UK has supplied RW Simon with a granulator and materials feed package that, together with a new all-electric Negri Bossi moulding machines, is set to transform the production of filter housing mouldings produced for a major customer Torrington-based RW Simon supplies a mix of medical/pharmaceutical products on a sub contract basis and manufactures its own range of glazing and ventilation products

Barrie Spencer, production manager says that 'the ancillary project came about because we as a company decided to take advantage of the latest technologies available, to benefit ourselves, and our customers so as to remain ahead of the field, and be in a position to offer longevity of service to our customer base.

Over the past five years we had doubled our moulding capacity in partnership with Negri Bossi as machine supplier.

We decided that the time was right to tackle our handling of ancillary functions and Wittmann UK was the partner chosen.' Wittmann UK was chosen partly because the company 'had the right attitude; was very keen to be here on site to see us and to fully understand our requirements so as to supply exactly what we needed,' says Spencer.

Two award-winning Wittmann MB 1818 granulators were supplied to RW Simon, to work alongside the new Negri Bossi electric moulding machines.

Wittmann UK also supplied two Wittmann volumetric feeders and an S18 loader.

Spencer notes that the current benefits of the project to date have 'largely been to increase our ability to meet an ever increasing demand from our customer base.

However, with the new all electric machine from Negri Bossi and the fully automated loading and mixing system from Wittmann UK we are seeing energy savings and tremendous accuracy, coupled with greatly improved tidiness/cleanliness.' In total, RW Simon is investing about GBP 70,000 in the filter housing production project.

Over the past five years the company has spent over GBP 500,000 in plant and capital equipment.

The results have borne fruit with RW Simon customers who, says Spencer, are 'happy to be with a forward thinking progressive and proactive supplier who gives them the confidence of continued quality supply.

Our intention to remain as a quality supplier for years to come.'.
