Plastics processors looking into buying a dryer based on energy savings should ask the supplier for the test data and the assumptions behind it, said Wittmann.

Plastics manufacturing equipment supplier, Wittmann UK, offers a proven system of energy measurement and management with its Drymax materials drying equipment, most commonly used by plastics processors Wittmann UK's managing director, Barry Hill, says that the company was delighted to be removing speculation and hype in this area and to be providing exact scientific measurements for energy consumption in materials drying

Hill said that plastics processors looking into buying a dryer based on energy savings should ask the supplier for the test data and the assumptions behind it.

He continued: "The key here is the measurement of the specific amount of energy required to heat the polymer resin and remove moisture from it".

After several years of research, Wittmann has developed a standard method of assessing and rating these matters - and in a way that provides repeatable results for the actual energy use.

With each dryer supplied, Wittmann also supplies an energy rating value - somewhat akin to some suppliers of domestic white goods.

The value shows the measured test result in terms of KWh per unit weight of dry air.

Drymax material dryers - complete with energy rating - are now available from Wittmann UK.
