A lance and form tool for punch presses developed by Wilson Tool International eliminates the need for additional processes such as spot welding and riveting of sheet metal assemblies

A lance and form tool for punch presses developed by Wilson Tool International of Swindon, will be shown on stand 3070 at MACH 2004, that eliminates the need for additional processes such as spot welding and riveting of sheet metal assemblies.

The Zip-Tech tool which was developed in conjunction with Zip-Tech LLC in America which first designed the mechanical joint, not only simplifies the production process, it will provide designers with simple solution to join dissimilar materials or coated materials together without any associated problems of sharp edges, surface oxidisation or toxic gases during welding.

The Zip-Tech tool enables in-process forming of the mechanical joint within the programmed cycle of a punch press, thus eliminating additional joining operations, risk of error, rejects and additional handling.

The tool creates a 'snap-together' mechanical joint created from overlapping tags making the joint very difficult to break once assembled.

The rigidity of the joint will be ideal for applications such as production of electrical cabinets and boxes, office furniture and display cabinets.
