When Peter Miles Engineering wanted to install a new pipeline to make their 8-position welding operations more productive they turned to the Wittfix patented system of joining pipes

When Peter Miles Engineering Ltd in Leigh, Greater Manchester, fabricators of chassis and other components for heavy duty earth moving equipment, wanted to install a new pipeline to make their 8-position welding operations more productive they turned to Witt Gas Techniques Ltd, the Warrington, Cheshire based gas safety, control, mixing and analysis equipment supplier and their Wittfix patented system of joining pipes using a compression system Peter Miles Engineering wanted to complete the work over the August Bank Holiday week-end but found there were no pipe fitters available, but by using the Wittfix system, which is so easy to use, they were able to use two of their own maintenance staff to undertake the work, so that it would be complete for their welders to start on the Monday morning shift with no loss of production

The installed system allows Peter Miles Engineering to pipe an Argon/CO2 mixture to 8 MIG welding machines using Witt Pipeline regulators with either single or double Witt flow meters at the welding stations increasing the usable outlet capacity of the pipeline system.

It also means that they can bulk buy their gas and install it in one place rather than have individual cylinders for each welding machine.

The Wittfix system uses unique O-ring joint fittings that eliminate the need for silver soldering or welding of joints.

This system reduces installation times and makes installations for short term use feasible, since the pipe can be re-used.

A full range of adaptors is available in brass or stainless steel including equal couplers, straight line connectors, tee-pieces and 90deg bends.

All joints can be made gas tight by initially hand tightening and then using a spanner for the final tightening, for pressures up to 25 Bar.

Fittings for higher pressures can be made to order.

No special surface or pipe end finishing is required.

Another feature of this system is that no marks are made to the surface of the pipe, provided no excessive force is used, allowing the pipe to be re-used.

Instructions on how to install a pipeline using this system is available on the Witt Gas web site at www.wittgas.com.

Don Grimshaw, General Manager at Witt Gas said: "We received the order the Monday before the week-end when they wanted to do the work.

"A couple of items were not in stock at the time, so they were air-mailed from our Headquarters in Germany and were all delivered to the customer ready for them to start work by the Friday.

"Peter Miles Engineering has tight delivery schedules to meet, so it was important that we reacted quickly and got them the items to complete the work.

"That they can use their own staff to fit this pipeline using the Wittfix system is a testament to how easy it is to use.".
