Witt Gas Techniques has sold 11 leak detection systems and several gas analysers to UK-based food producers over the past three months.

Over the last 3 months, Witt Gas Techniques, the Warrington-based gas safety, control, mixing and analysis equipment supplier has sold in excess of 10 leak detection systems and several gas analysers to UK-based food producers Five Leak-Master Micro-leak detection systems with different chamber sizes have been sold for use on Modified Atmosphere Packaging (Map) lines

Leak-master uses a non-destructive detection function based on CO2 detection technology to find leaks in individual flexible and rigid food packaging.

The use of CO2 is much more cost efficient than using helium as the tracing gas.

The equipment's sensor can detect leaks between 0 - 5,000 parts per million.

A touch screen interface is used to access the high memory capability, with the ability to store settings for up to 1,200 different products as well as names and passwords for 60 users.

The equipment is very portable, weighing 60 kgs, enabling it to be transferred from one packaging line to another.

Following its launch at the PPMA Show in September 2005, several Pack-Vac leak detection systems have been delivered to different UK food manufacturers.

It uses water for leak detecting without the need for any trace gas and is available in several versions including one with a special attachment for testing leaks from vacuum packs.

In addition a number of PA gas analysers which measure the Oxygen (O2) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) content in Modified Atmosphere Packaging (Map) have been delivered.

They are designed for either continuous or intermittent analysis and have an integrated data logger for recording up to 100 measurements.

Carl Long, General Manager at Witt Gas Techniques said: "Since the PPMA Show, the interest shown in our products by UK food manufacturers has been very high, hence the number of systems we have sold.

Most manufacturers tell us that it is vital they maintain creditability with the supermarkets, any returns with faulty packaging is a very expensive operation.

They tell us that our equipment definitely helps reduce the number of returns they receive, therefore the payback time on their investment is short.

Also our systems are easy to operate and operator training is minimal.".
