While many exhibitors at MACH 2004 boasted of taking orders on their stands, tooling specialist WNT (UK) took things a stage further by taking an order on the courtesy bus taking visitors and exhibitors back to the car park at the close of business! Business Development Manager Adrian Fitts takes up the story: "During the short journey to the car park I received a call from Bulwell Precision Engineers, with an urgent request for ten 1.8mm diameter solid carbide ballnose cutters A quick call to our Sheffield distribution centre established their availability in Germany, the order was confirmed while I was on the bus, and the items were with the customer at 9:30 the following morning

While the value of the order was relatively low [GBP 150.00] it received the same level of service as any other order.

Any order placed before 18:30 will be delivered by 12 noon the following day - guaranteed.

It is this level of customer service that has helped WNT make rapid inroads into the cutting tool market in the UK and increase its turnover from GBP 1.1 million in 2000 (check year) to a predicted GBP 6.5 million this year.

"Overall, we were extremely satisfied with MACH 2004.

It was an exercise in building brand awareness, reflected by the size and design of our stand.

In previous years we have looked to MACH to generate high numbers of leads, but this year was all about service and support.

We were very pleased with the number of visitors that wanted to discuss particular tooling solutions.

Our view is that all of these enquiries are genuine." Supporting this view, Managing Director Tony Pennington says: "Our business model is based on customer service.

This does not end with guaranteeing next day before noon delivery but extends to customer support in their premises.

Our 19 technical sales engineers are all apprentice-trained and their experience and ability means they can provide a high quality, technically astute service able to solve most metal cutting problems our customer base can throw at them.
