Positively locking milling chucks are
simpler

Positively locking milling chucks have no internal moving parts and with a simple two-piece construction offer a viable alternative to the more complex heat shrink and hydraulic units.

It is often the case that the simplest ideas are the best The simplicity of WNT's Positive Lock milling chucks is a case in point

With no internal moving parts and a simple two-piece construction, the range offers a viable alternative to the more complex heat shrink and hydraulic units.

Available with a variety of connection styles, including HSK, BT and DIN 69871, the system is simple to use and no special tools or torque wrenches are required to operate it.

The lock nut is simply tightened to a dead-stop.

This ease of use, though, does not detract from the accuracy and performance of the Positive Lock system.

For example, when gripping on a 12mm diameter tool shank the clamping force is 600Nm, which is almost three times that of a comparable heat shrink chuck.

Concentricity is guaranteed at 0.003mm at 50mm from the chuck face when clamping a 20mm diameter cutter at 520Nm force.

This is aided by the 360 degree clamping offered by the system, a feature that also benefits when gripping cutters with flats on the shank.

At the same time the lack of moving parts increases the life expectancy.

The typical user of the Positive Lock chuck system is one with a requirement for high precision/high speed applications.

With this in mind the chucks are balanced, as standard, to G2.5 at 20 000 rev/min, with through tool coolant to a maximum pressure of 50 bar also being a standard feature.

While the chucks have been designed to be used on cutters with specific shank sizes, ranging between 6mm and 32mm, they can be used in conjunction with WNT's precision ground reduction sleeves, designed specifically for the Positive Lock chucks.

With these the minimum diameter that can be gripped is reduced to 3mm. Request a free brochure from WNT (UK) ...
