Tools bring metalcutting advantages

Several new cutting tool ranges that will bring distinct advantages to metalcutting companies include mini solid carbide drills, new side and face cutters and face mills.

With over 45 000 products in its catalogue it is a challenge for WNT (UK) to continue to develop new and innovative products However, it is a challenge that it continues to meet

Here at Tooling 2005 WNT (UK) is introducing several new cutting tool ranges that will bring distinct advantages to metalcutting companies here in the UK.

* WTX Mini - the WTX Mini series of solid carbide drills is part of the company's Mastertool range and is available in diameters between 1.0 and 2.9mm diameter in increments of 0.1mm.

Each drill is also available, as standard, in three lengths: 5xD, 8xD and 12xD, all with through tool coolant as standard.

The WTX Mini drills are self-centring and the dedicated flute geometry ensures optimum swarf control and evacuation, a critical element when drilling holes of this diameter to length ratio.

* FM system - the introduction of the FM system of side and face cutters brings to WNT (UK) customers a cost-effective solution to the milling of slots measuring from 2.3mm to 6.0mm in width.

The cutter bodies feature a self-clamping, double prismatic insert support that provides precise and secure insert location.

The design of the insert pocket actually increases the clamping pressure on the insert as a function of the cutting forces, eliminating the need for additional clamping elements.

The insert and cutter design assist in increasing productivity as the full width of the insert is in cut, allowing feedrates to be increased dramatically when compared to conventional cross-pitched cutters, while the chipbreaker design ensures efficient swarf removal.

Inserts are available to cut a variety of materials including steel, stainless steels, cast irons and non-ferrous materials.

The FM system is currently available in three diameters, these being 100mm, 125mm and 160mm and in all cases is available in widths of 2.3mm, then in millimetre increments from 3.0mm to 6.0mm.

* 4900-05 face mills - the third new product being unveiled at Tooling 2005 is the 4900-09 series of close pitch face milling cutters.

Suitable for face, shoulder and slot milling applications, the close pitch design of the 4900-09 series ensures the maximum number of inserts throughout the range of diameters.

For instance, the 66 mm diameter cutter has eight inserts with the 100mm diameter cutter benefiting from 10 inserts.

The insert pocket design ensures that an exact 90 deg corner angle is produced when milling slots or shoulders and each insert provides four effective cutting edges, complete with wiper facet.

In designing the 4900-09 series close attention has been paid to the insert design and a completely new geometry has been developed to ensure optimum performance across the entire application range.

Beyond new products WNT (UK) is increasing the level of service and support it offers its customers through the addition of nine new members of staff.

Among these are five technical sales engineers who will strengthen the WNT (UK) presence 'in the field'.

They are Steve Ward, who will operate in Wales; Dave Lambert (North East); Nigel Marsh (Cheltenham and Gloucester); Mark Hobbis (Midlands); and Glen Brenchley (Kent).

In addition, WNT (UK) has added to its internal support team with the appointment of Jane Beckett, who will be working in the expanding support role for the company's Tool Service department; Lynne Thompson (internal sales); and Kevin Glossop and Billy Poore, who take the total number of internal technical support engineers to five.

Tony Pennington, WNT (UK)'s managing director, says: "This expansion and continued product development can only be good news for WNT (UK) and our customers".

"As our sales continue to grow we will continue to invest and we already have plans in place to recruit a further five external technical sales engineers, with the recruitment process starting in December 2005".

"With the combination of our extensive product range, our ability to guarantee delivery of any standard item by noon the next working day and our levels of service and support, we are in an ideal position to continue to expand our business here in the UK, while maintaining the level of service and support that our current customers rate so highly." In a recent survey WNT (UK) scored higher than any of its competitors across a number of areas, including technical support, delivery, product range and price.

In fact, field technical support scored 22% higher than its competitors, a figure that fully justifies the investment being made in this area.

Product delivery scored 29% higher, while the sales office at Sheffield was deemed to be 16% more efficient than those of competitors. Request a free brochure from WNT (UK) ...
