Face millers raise metal removal rates

Face milling cutters, using octagonal inserts and new cutter body geometry, offer higher metal removal rates for users of lower-powered machining centres and milling machines - roughing or finishing.

Available from WNT (UK), the Pokolm Baseworx series of face milling cutters opens up new productivity opportunities for users of lower-powered machining centres and milling machines, whether roughing or finishing The design of the octagonal Baseworx inserts, combined with the unique cutter body, which presents a 20 deg axial approach to the workpiece, enables much higher depths of cut to be achieved for the same power consumption when compared to conventional face mills

Combined with the highest available number of cutting edges, this ensures that Baseworx provides a cost-effective solution for face milling, slot milling, pocket milling and chamfering.

The range consists of 12.7mm across flats inserts that are available with, or without, chipbreakers in order to meet the requirements of a variety of applications and material types.

These inserts can be specified in two carbide grades: either a K10 polished insert for machining aluminium or a P40 PVTi insert for machining steels.

The current range of cutter bodies extends to nine different diameters ranging from 40 to 125mm diameter.

Each cutter features integrated insert seats that facilitate quick and accurate positioning of the insert. Request a free brochure from WNT (UK) ...
