High tensile steel turning speed doubled
Further development of a cutting insert has resulted in a dramatic improvement in its performance: machining steel with a tensile strength of 800N/mm2 at surface speeds around of 280m/min.
As part of its philosophy of continuous development WNT has been working on specific insert grades and geometries in order to deliver even greater productivity to metal cutting companies One area that has seen specific research is that of turning high tensile steel components

Precision boring tools perform roughing, finishing
Precision modular boring tools provide users with roughing and finish boring capability through an extensive range of modular couplings and extensions.
When it launched its HCF1130 grade of carbide WNT had an insert that was competitive in the marketplace.
However, further development of this steel specific insert has resulted in a dramatic improvement in its performance.
Under suitable machining conditions it is now possible to machine steel with a tensile strength of 800N/mm2 at surface speeds in the order of 280 m/min.
A figure that is double that originally specified for this grade.
"While it is very difficult to quote specific feeds and speeds due to the numerous variables that are encountered on the shopfloor, such as machine tool and component stability, these figures indicate a significant potential to improve cycle times and reduce manufacturing costs," said Adrian Fitts, WNT (UK)'s Business Development Manager.
